Baseball seems to have an abundance of high-end closers. From veterans to some of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n
league’s rising stars, there\u2019s a handful of closers who could lead the league in saves in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And as always, there\u2019s always a surprise who comes out of nowhere to dominate. Can you find<\/p>\n\n\n\n
some value in an unknown or are the usual suspects destined to take this award once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Betting Favorites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Emmanuel Clase, Cleveland Guardians (+450)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Clase is the class in the Majors the last two seasons racking up the most saves in consecutive<\/p>\n\n\n\n years. In 2022 Clase posted 42 saves and followed it up a year later with 44. He brings the<\/p>\n\n\n\n perfect combo of pitching and throwing the second-most innings of any reliever. He\u2019ll turn 26<\/p>\n\n\n\n before the start of the regular season, can throw strikes and is very reliable. While he did finish<\/p>\n\n\n\n with 44 saves, that number could have been higher has Clase also led the Majors in blown<\/p>\n\n\n\n saves with 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Edwin D\u00edaz, New York Mets (+750)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We\u2019ll once again hear the trumpets at Citi Field with the return of Edwin Diaz. He\u2019ll look to<\/p>\n\n\n\n regain his form that had him atop the saves leaderboard in 2018 when he recorded an<\/p>\n\n\n\n MLB-best 57 saves for the Mariners. But he missed all of 2023 after injuring his right knee at<\/p>\n\n\n\n the World Baseball Classic. The previous season, Diaz was dominant. He had a 50% strikeout<\/p>\n\n\n\n rate and 17 strikeouts per nine innings which is the second highest for any pitcher with at least<\/p>\n\n\n\n 50 innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sleepers and Longshots<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Devin Williams, Milwaukee Brewers (+1200)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This wager could come with some risk. First, the positive stuff. Since the beginning of 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n (min. 150 innings) Williams ranks first in MLB in ERA (1.75), first in batting average allowed<\/p>\n\n\n\n (.145), third in FIP (2.26) and third in strikeout rate (40.5%). Last season Williams recorded 36<\/p>\n\n\n\n saves from 40 opportunities. The downside is there\u2019s a good chance the Brewers will move him<\/p>\n\n\n\n to another team and if that potential suitor already has a closer, his opportunities will decrease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jhoan Duran, Minnesota Twins (+1200)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jhoan Duran had 27 saves last year putting him 15th in MLB. And he sure can throw some<\/p>\n\n\n\n heat, an MLB-best 101.8 mph, not bad for a 6-foot-5 guy who can chuck the call. He has a<\/p>\n\n\n\n good repertoire of pitches including a nasty curve and \u2018splinker\u2019, a cross between a splitter and<\/p>\n\n\n\n a sinker.
