Over the last four seasons the NL Cy Young winner has been a longshot. If you look at the last<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 winners of this award, each pitcher had at least 10 wins and an ERA of 2.43 or better. Blake<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snell came out of nowhere to capture his second Cy Young last season at long odds. So could<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we see another longshot win in 2024?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usual Suspects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves (+450)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Despite winning 20 games Spencer Stride finished 4th in Cy Young voting in 2023 but he is now<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the clear cut favorite to win it this season. Strider led the league in wins, strikeouts and his<\/p>\n\n\n\n

36.8% K% was the best in MLB by a wide margin. He also set a league record for the faster<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pitcher to get to 100 strikeouts, doing it in just 61 innings. The 25 year old needs to get his ERA<\/p>\n\n\n\n

under control (3.86 in 2023) in order to chase down his first Cy Young award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies (+700)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Zack Wheeler had 13 wins last season, 1.08 WHIP and a 3.61 ERA which was higher than his<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.78 the year before. He does have the stuff to lower his ERA and if he can, he\u2019ll have a shot at<\/p>\n\n\n\n

his first Cy Young. This is a contract season for Wheeler and becomes an unrestricted free<\/p>\n\n\n\n

agent at the end of 2024 so expect his level of play to increase as he chases a huge payday<\/p>\n\n\n\n

next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Not Take A Shot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Justin Steele, Chicago Cubs (+1400)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At most books, Justin Steele opened last season at +20000 at some sportsbooks and finished<\/p>\n\n\n\n

with a 16-5 record. The 28-year old had a strong season and was in Cy Young consideration<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but the Cubs faded down the stretch, hurting his chances and ultimately finished fifth in voting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, Steele appears ready to take his game to the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sonny Gray, St. Louis Cardinals (+2500)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sonny Gray finished 8-8 with the Twins and was second, behind Gerrit Cole in Cy Young voting<\/p>\n\n\n\n

over in the American League. The 34-year old joined the Cardinals in the offseason and if this<\/p>\n\n\n\n

team can start hitting again, Gray can offer the kind of pitching that gives his key a chance in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

every start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
