The Louisville Cardinals got off to a 2-1 SU start last season but absolutely imploded after that losing 9 straight to finish 2-10 SU/1-10 ATS. That was all she wrote for head coach Bobby Petrino and after he was pink slipped Louisville hired the very capable Scott Satterfield from Appalachian State. The Cardinals might not be as bad as they looked last year but they still have a lot of digging out to do from the mess that Petrino left. That’s evident from the college football betting odds that have the Cardinals installed as a hefty +18 home underdog.

NOTRE DAME AT LOUISVILLE
LINE: NOTRE DAME -18

For Notre Dame, it’ll be business as usual. The Irish have a solid team that should put up double digit wins once again and could return to the National Championship playoffs where they’ll get slaughtered by Alabama or Clemson. Some things about Notre Dame just never change–they’re annually the biggest ‘public’ team in college football and as a result it’s tough to find good value playing on the Irish. Notre Dame was 5-1 SU on the road last year but just 2-3 ATS.

Louisville returns 10 starters on defense but since the 2018 Cardinals’ defense was downright miserable ranking #128 in points against (44.1 PPG) that might not be a good thing. Of course, coaching plays a big role and Satterfield’s Appalachian State teams were always well schooled in the fundamentals. 7 starters return on offense and while Louisville might not be back over .500 this season one thing Satterfield has always been exceptional at is strategizing to work with the talent on hand. His real area of expertise is on offense where he helped change App State to a spread attack from a power running game. The Mountaineers were a fixture atop the 1-AA offense stats and he’s been able to carry that success up to the FBS level. That being said, given the talent on hand you might see Louisville focus more on the rush.

Satterfield’s resume at App State also gives us some tactical guidance. His teams loved to ‘slow the tempo’ and play a more control oriented game–particularly against superior talent at home. That’s essentially the situation we have here. Notre Dame is definitely the better team but it’s hard to see them operating at peak offensive efficiency at the tart of the season and particularly in this venue against this opponent. If I’m asking a team to cover nearly three touchdowns that’s a significant concern.

BET LOUISVILLE +18 OVER NOTRE DAME

Get the latest college football odds and information–follow BetOnline.ag on Twitter!

With the NFL waiting in the wings and ready to get started on Thursday night we’ve got a special ‘Monday…

[133

post-6238","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ncaaf
["GET
