The Dallas Cowboys are 3-0, and what\u2019s more is that they are a convincing 3-0. They have won three games authoritatively with every win coming by at least 10 points. Now they play a New Orleans Saints team who\u2019ll be without Drew Brees but managed to put things together with Teddy Bridgewater on the road in Seattle last week. Can the Cowboys win and cover as a small road favorite?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cowboys are rolling. They are beating opponents by large margins. Both sides of the ball are playing well, but it\u2019s the offense which is gaining more notice, and for good reason. Last year\u2019s Dallas team was imbalanced in the direction of the defense. That was the stronger side of the ball. The Cowboys, if they wanted to become a Super Bowl contender, needed to become a better offensive team. They have done that through three games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The big change Dallas made on its coaching staff this season was to put Kelle Moore in at offensive coordinator, replacing longtime coordinator Scott Linehan. The results have been noticeable. Dallas is accumulating more passing yards. Dak Prescott has 920 passing yards, nine touchdowns and just two interceptions so far. That\u2019s impressive considering he had just 22 touchdown passes all of last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Saints are fairly one-dimensional right now without Brees as Bridgewater simply can\u2019t make the same timing and down-field throws. If the Cowboys defense brings their \u2018A\u2019 game and cuts off the Saints rushing attack, they should get the win. They\u2019re a significantly better team than the incomplete Saints right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Saints figured to lose \u2013 maybe even comfortably \u2013 last week in Seattle, where the Seahawks are tough to beat most of the time. New Orleans didn\u2019t have Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater was making his first start of 2019 and the Saints should have been in trouble. Instead, they comfortably handled the Seahawks, winning 33-27 in a game where they were ahead by a large margin in the second half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Saints still have plenty to be concerned about as they were outgained 514-265 in that game and 26-15 in first downs. However, they got three touchdowns from defense and special teams, and that proved to be the difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Orleans has an excellent defense and it also has Alvin Kamara, a player who is going to get his stats and be a problem for opposing defenses no matter who the Saints\u2019 quarterback is. He had 161 yards and two touchdowns last week. New Orleans can use a formula of strong defense, lots of Alvin Kamara, and a roaring home crowd on Sunday Night Football to blunt Dallas\u2019 defense and score another win without Brees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lack of Drew Brees, combined with New Orleans\u2019 strong defense, points to a very physical and tough game in which neither offense will flourish. New Orleans simply can\u2019t afford to get into a shootout. With the Saints being the home team here, I expect them to be able to dictate the pace a little bit, which should keep this game under the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
