The trick with any kind of futures betting is *value*.  You&#8217;re better off looking for &#8216;below the radar&#8217; teams at generous prices than you are trying to pick the winner at an underlay.  We&#8217;ll start with some divisional futures and move on to the Conference and Stanley Cup futures.  In our first installment, we&#8217;ll look at the Pacific and the Central.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CENTRAL DIVISION<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The toughest division in hockey.  You know it&#8217;s tough when the defending Stanley Cup champions are a co-second choice to win the division.  The Colorado Avalanche are a +300 favorite which suggests a dramatic improvement from their 90 point season of a year ago.  Nathan MacKinnon might be the best player in the NHL and you can make a solid case that the Avs have the best top line in the league with MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen.  What might be most scary is that the oldest of the three is Landeskog at 26.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our pick is the Nashville Predators.  No team more perfectly filled their offseason need more than the Preds who picked up Mikael Granlund and Matt Duchene to improve the power play and give the team more scoring depth.  Pekka Rinne and Jusse Saros form one of the best goalie tandems in the league and even with the loss of PK Subban they&#8217;re still ridiculously deep on the blueline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BET NASHVILLE PREDATORS +450 TO WIN CENTRAL DIVISION<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PACIFIC DIVISION<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vegas Golden Knights are favored at +125.  I love me some Vegas hockey but there&#8217;s just no value at that price.  The defense is competent but not championship level.  The forwards are great and Marc-Andre Fleury remains a beast in goal.   The best value looks to be the Calgary Flames.  Remember them?  The Flames finished with 107 points and had the #2 scoring offense (3.52 goals per game) and the #9 scoring defense (2.72 goals per game).   Otherwise, the Airzona Coyotes look to be a year and possibly a player or two away.
