Stanford and Washington have each won the division twice since Oregon last made an appearance in the Pac 12 Championship Game, but the Ducks can put a hammerlock on the division with a win over the Huskies. Every other team in the division already has two conference losses while Oregon is undefeated in Pac 12 play. The Ducks knocked off Stanford last month, and a win over the Huskies on Saturday would leave them without equal in the division.

OREGON DUCKS AT WASHINGTON HUSKIES
CFB LINE: OREGON -3
CFB TOTAL: 48.5

The action has been on Oregon throughout the week. The Ducks opened as a short road favorite per the college football betting odds, and that line has since risen to a field goal. Sharp bettors are expecting a low scoring game as the total has fallen from 51.5 to 48.5 over the last several days.

RECENT HISTORY

Oregon has dominated this series in recent years, winning 12 straight games between 2004 and 2015. Washington broke the Ducks’ stranglehold on this border war in 2016, and the Huskies erased a lot of frustration the next two years. The Huskies hammered the Ducks 70-21 in 2016 and smashed Oregon 38-3 in 2017 before losing 30-27 in overtime to their southern rivals last season.

WHEN OREGON HAS THE BALL

Mario Cristobal has brought an SEC mentality to Eugene, and while that’s helped on defense, it has led to inefficiency on offense. The Ducks run the ball way too often considering they have a first-round pick at quarterback in Justin Herbert, and that has made this offense less productive than it could be if Herbert were allowed to open things up more.

Herbert has completed 69.1 percent of his passes, and he is averaging 8.3 YPA on the year. The 6’7 senior with a big arm has tossed 17 touchdowns against one interception, and he has some of the most explosive receivers in the Pac 12. Jacob Breeland is out for the rest of the season after suffering a major knee injury against Colorado, but the Ducks are getting some of their best receivers back after they were injured earlier in the year.

Oregon has moved the ball well on the ground, averaging 4.9 YPC, and Washington’s defense has been susceptible to the run. The Huskies are allowing 4.5 YPC on the year, a noticeable increase from what we have seen in previous seasons from this front seven. C.J. Verdell could have a better day than many expect, and that could lead to the game going over the CFB betting total.

WHEN WASHINGTON HAS THE BALL

The formula for the Huskies has been simple this year. When Jacob Eason can move the ball through the air, this offense thrives, but if he has a poor day, Washington is in trouble.

Eason’s two worst outings of the season were against California and Stanford. He completed 34 of 66 passes for 368 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in those two games, and the offense was held under 20 points both times. Aaron Fuller is the one reliable receiver on the Huskies, and Fuller was responsible for nearly all of Washington’s passing production against Stanford.

Washington has had some solid running backs during the Chris Petersen era, and the Huskies have one of the better run games in college football this year. They are averaging 4.9 YPC, and Salvon Ahmed can move. He has had a few explosive runs but running on Oregon is tough.

To be fair, doing anything against this Oregon defense is tough. The Ducks have the best defense in the country according to SP+, and they are allowing just 3.8 yards per play. Oregon’s pass defense has been phenomenal, and the front seven has been solid. They have held their last five opponents to seven points or less, so points will be hard to come by, making a team total bet an interesting proposition.

PREDICTION

The Huskies have a better coach in Petersen, but the Ducks have far more talent at their disposal. Cristobal has been one of the worst coaches in college football when it comes to game management, so live betting against Oregon could be on the table if this game is close down the stretch.

Get the latest college football odds and information–follow BetOnline.ag on Twitter!

BetOnline.ag on Instagram–Follow for the latest odds, stats and information!

It’s been five years since the Oregon Ducks last won the Pac 12 North.
