We\u2019re only halfway through the season, but we are already down to just four real contenders for the Heisman Trophy. Quarterbacks at elite schools once again dominate the discussion as the Heisman Trophy betting odds <\/a>favor signal callers from LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ohio State. Tua Tagovailoa\u2019s injury has opened up the race somewhat as the Alabama quarterback was the odds-on favorite for the last two weeks, and Joe Burrow is the new favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who would have thought that LSU\u2019s Joe Burrow would be the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy midway through the season? Burrow was 33-1 to win the Heisman Trophy before the season started, but his play has lifted LSU to the No. 2 spot in the AP Poll. The transfer from Ohio State is out to become just the second LSU player to win the Heisman Trophy (the first being Billy Cannon in 1959), and he has the numbers and moments you want to see from a frontrunner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burrow is completing 79.4 percent of his passes this season. He is on pace to smash the single-season completion percentage record despite playing in the toughest division in college football, and he has already led LSU to signature wins over Texas and Florida. We\u2019ve seen him come through in a big way compared to the other candidates, but the next three weeks will make or break Burrow. LSU hosts Auburn this week and travels to Alabama in two weeks\u2019 time. Burrow should put up big numbers against an Auburn secondary that isn\u2019t overwhelming provided LSU\u2019s offensive line can give him time to throw, but Alabama\u2019s defensive backs are the best in the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There continues to be no value on Jalen Hurts\u2019 odds to win the Heisman Trophy<\/a>. Hurts is putting up great numbers at Oklahoma, and he dazzled again this week in a win over West Virginia, but it\u2019s going to take a monumental season for a Big 12 quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy. This conference is home to some of the worst defenses in the Power Five, and we\u2019ve seen Oklahoma quarterbacks and quarterbacks from other schools shred the other nine defenses in this conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas\u2019 narrow 50-48 win over Kansas last week will hurt Hurts\u2019 chances too. Texas has been trumpeted as the second-best team in the Big 12, but a narrow win against one of the worst programs in the country this decade really hurts your conference\u2019s resume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you believe that Tua Tagovailoa will be healthy in time for the LSU game, now is the time to buy into the Alabama quarterback. Tagovailoa has been the frontrunner per the Heisman Trophy betting odds<\/a> for much of the season, so if he only misses this week\u2019s game against Arkansas, he is primed to make a triumphant return versus LSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tagovailoa was robbed of the Heisman Trophy last season, and voters love a great turnaround story when a player overcomes an injury to lead his team to victory. The most prolific quarterback in Alabama history has three incredible receivers, so he should have a banner day against a mediocre LSU secondary on November 9 provided he is healthy enough to take the field. This is an excellent chance to get the best player in the country at a fantastic price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is still plenty of value in Justin Fields too. Fields continues to lead Ohio State to easy victories this season, and the Buckeyes smashed what was one of the best defenses in the country in a 52-3 win over Northwestern last Friday. The dual-threat quarterback failed to run for a touchdown for the first time this season, but he threw for four scores in a laugher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wisconsin\u2019s stunning loss to Illinois last week takes some of the luster off this week\u2019s tilt between the Badgers and the Buckeyes in Columbus, but people will take note of Fields if he has another strong performance. Fields can see his odds halved at this time next week with a standout performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
