It’s a good thing we did because the lone home dog failed to cover as a great performance from Matt Moore wasn’t enough to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to stay within the NFL betting odds against the Green Bay Packers.

There are plenty of home underdogs in the NFL this week. A whopping seven games have lines of a field goal or less, so we could see even more home underdogs than there currently are if sharps bet Indianapolis on the road against Pittsburgh or Detroit on the road against Oakland.

NFL WEEK 9 BETTING ODDS

ARIZONA CARDINALS +9.5 VS. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

A rookie quarterback and rookie head coach are the biggest home dogs of the week. Arizona is not in a great spot here. The Cardinals will have to face the best defense in the NFL on short rest, and San Francisco is riding high after throttling Carolina 51-13 last week.

There are a few reasons for Cardinals fans to be optimistic though. Arizona has shown signs of life under Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. This team is 3-4-1, and the Cardinals won three straight games prior to their loss to New Orleans last week.

While the conventional wisdom is that Thursday games are lower scoring than average, the average TNF tilt has nearly three points more per game than games on other days since its inception. That may have you wanting to bet the over in this one.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS +1.5 VS. HOUSTON TEXANS

Deshaun Watson could be on his way to becoming the second quarterback in the Class of 2017 to win the NFL MVP, but the Texans had a really hard time getting past Jacksonville in Houston last month. Houston squeaked out a 13-12 victory with Watson totaling just 164 total yards, so keep that in mind if you’re looking at betting Houston as a short road favorite this week.

Jacksonville’s defense no longer has Jalen Ramsey, but there are plenty of playmakers. Yannick Ngakoue, Josh Allen, and Calais Campbell combined for 5.5 sacks against the Jets last week, and former Texans cornerback A.J. Bouye is one of the top defensive backs in the NFL.

The Texans took a significant hit when it was announced that J.J. Watt was lost for the season with a torn pectoral muscle, and this defense could have a hard time stopping Jacksonville without him.

MIAMI DOLPHINS +3 VS. NEW YORK JETS

Could the lowly Miami Dolphins finally get a win? Miami went up 14-0 on Pittsburgh last night before blowing the lead in the second half. The Dolphins saw their top two cornerbacks leave that game due to injury, opening the door for the Steelers to rally, and Miami received more bad news this afternoon.

Xavien Howard will likely miss the rest of the season after being placed on Injured Reserve. Howard was the most talented player left on a barren defense, so Miami must solve some issues at defensive back to pick up its first win.

DENVER BRONCOS +3 VS. CLEVELAND BROWNS

Joe Flacco will not be starting for Denver this week. The veteran quarterback had some pointed words for head coach Vic Fangio following last week’s agonizing loss to Indianapolis, so it should be interesting to see how the offense looks this week with Brandon Allen at the helm. Allen has yet to throw a pass in the regular season, but Denver is a short underdog per the NFL betting odds because he will probably be responsible for fewer turnovers than his counterpart.

His mug has been plastered all over the television, but it hasn’t been a great season for Baker Mayfield. The 2018 No. 1 pick has thrown twice as many interceptions as touchdowns, and he has fumbled three times this season. Denver’s defense can overwhelm quarterbacks, so Mayfield will probably make some mistakes here.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS +3 VS. GREEN BAY PACKERS

It’s hard to call the Chargers a home underdog since their small stadium is routinely taken over by visiting fans. There will be plenty of people in green and gold on Sunday, and the football betting odds for this game reflect that.

Green Bay is 7-1, and the Packers have won four straight games since falling to Philadelphia in Lambeau Field. They have covered the spread in each of their road tilts, beating Chicago and Kansas City by seven points and Dallas by 10 points.

BALTIMORE RAVENS +3 VS. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Everyone is ready to see Lamar Jackson take on the New England Patriots. New England has been as dominant as ever, but the Pats have only played one team with a winning record. They failed to cover and were pushed in a 16-10 win over Buffalo where Tom Brady was continually flustered, and Baltimore will be out to copy that formula.

Baltimore has had a week to prepare for this game, and the Ravens have been excellent coming off a bye. They are 14-3 off a bye week since 2002, and no team has a better record after their bye during this stretch.

NEW YORK GIANTS +7 VS. DALLAS COWBOYS

Dallas defeated Eli Manning and the Giants in Big D in Week 1, but Daniel Jones is at the helm of Big Blue now. Jones has been up and down during his time as the team’s starter, yet he had an excellent performance last week against Detroit. While Saquon Barkley was largely held in check on the ground, Jones threw for 322 yards and four touchdowns in a losing effort.

A loss to the Giants might be the end for Jason Garrett. That would be the Cowboys fourth loss in five games, and it would be their second defeat at the hands of one of the miserable New York teams.

Get the latest NFL football odds and information–follow BetOnline.ag on Twitter!

BetOnline.ag on Instagram–Follow for the latest odds, stats and information!

Since there was only one home underdog in the NFL last week, we shifted our attention to college football.
