Burrow could set the single-season completion percentage record, and his numbers are miles better than what we saw from the Ohio State transfer as a junior. In 2018, Burrow completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 2,894 yards and threw 16 touchdowns against five interceptions. Those are decent numbers, but he is a Heisman Trophy contender because through eight games he has completed 78.8 percent of his passes for 2,804 yards with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2019.

ODDS TO WIN 2019 HEISMAN TROPHY

JOE BURROW -125
JALEN HURTS +225
TUA TAGOVAILOA +500
JUSTIN FIELDS +600
CHASE YOUNG +2500

LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ohio State are all off this week, so there shouldn’t be much movement in the Heisman Trophy betting odds over the next 10 days.

All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa next week when LSU takes on Alabama. The Tigers have not beaten the Crimson Tide since 2011, and they haven’t scored more than 24 points in this game since Nick Saban’s first year at Alabama. If Burrow can lead the Bayou Bengals to a win where they move the ball well on this defense, you can be almost certain that he will win the Heisman Trophy barring a massive collapse at the end of the year.

Tua Tagovailoa’s status for that game is currently up in the air. Tagovailoa suffered a high-ankle sprain in the win against Tennessee on the third Saturday of October, and he sat out of Alabama’s last game with Arkansas. He is hoping to be available against LSU, but high-ankle sprains are tricky.

Tagovailoa has the best value on the board at 5-1. LSU’s defense is not great. The Crimson Tide should have success against this defense no matter who is under center, and Alabama boasts the best trio of receivers in the country. Provided he plays, Alabama should be favored by at least a touchdown per the college football betting odds, and if he lights up LSU, he will immediately be the frontrunner again.

I continue to shake my head with regards to Jalen Hurts’ odds. Even a bad loss to Kansas State this weekend did little to ding his Heisman Trophy chances according to the oddsmakers. Hurts was +200 to win the award last week, and he only dropped to +225 despite Oklahoma falling from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Hurts was fantastic in the loss. He was responsible for all of Oklahoma’s offense in the 48-41 defeat, totaling nearly 500 yards with his arm and his legs. However, I fully expect voters to have Oklahoma fatigue the closer we get to the vote. We saw Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray dominate the Big 12 like Hurt is doing, and it’s hard to continue to reward players for beating up bad Big 12 defenses. The conference is better on that side of the ball than previous years, but I believe that there will be a popular outcry against Oklahoma. We’ve never had a school produce three straight Heisman Trophy winners, and there are enough quality candidates to not reward Hurts.

Justin Fields’ Heisman Trophy betting odds are finally starting to fall. Fields was an excellent bet at 9-1 and higher than that, and I continually recommended betting on him at those prices. He isn’t putting up great numbers, but he might just be the best player on the best team in the country and that could earn him the Heisman.

Fields and Ohio State laid waste to Wisconsin last week, hammering the Badgers 38-7. Fields was responsible for three touchdowns in the easy win, and he has been very efficient this season. He has completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 1,659 yards with 24 touchdowns and one interception. The transfer from Georgia has added 319 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, so Fields stands a good chance of claiming the award if he plays well in wins over Penn State and Michigan to close out the year.

Chase Young could be the best defensive player in the nation, and he was added to the board this week after a monster performance against Wisconsin. Young sacked Jack Coan four times on the afternoon, and he is the best player on an elite defense. It’s hard to see a defensive player winning the award barring multiple Heisman Trophy moments though, and he would have to have exceptional games against Michigan and Penn State to have a chance.

Get the latest college football odds and information–follow BetOnline.ag on Twitter!

BetOnline.ag on Instagram–Follow for the latest odds, stats and information!

After another solid performance last Saturday, Joe Burrow is now the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
