At this point,\nJoe Burrow would probably need to be implicated in a scandal to lose\nthe Heisman Trophy. Burrow is set to become the first LSU player in\nsix decades to win the award and the first quarterback in school\nhistory to claim the Heisman. His Heisman\nTrophy betting odds<\/a> have dropped like a rock since LSU\nbeat Alabama for the first time in eight years two weeks ago, and he\nis the biggest favorite we have seen this late in the season in quite\nsome time. Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields are the only two players\nleft that can overtake Burrow, but they won\u2019t catch him unless he\ncompletely collapses down the stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burrow has\nalready set numerous school records at LSU. The Ohio State transfer\nbroke the single season passing yards and passing touchdown records\nlast week against Ole Miss, and he has five of the eight most\nprolific single games in Tigers\u2019 history in terms of passing yards.\nHe has thrown for 3,687 yards and 38 touchdowns this year, and his\ncompletion percentage of 78.6 would be an NCAA record if he kept it\nup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has yet to\nhave a bad game in this offense, and Burrow could light up the\nscoreboard against Arkansas this week. The Razorbacks have the worst\ndefense in the SEC, and LSU is favored by an incredible 43.5 points\nagainst Arkansas. That\u2019s the biggest\npoint spread<\/a> in an SEC game since the late 1970s. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s unlikely\nthat Burrow has a poor performance against Texas A&M too. The\nAggies have allowed elite quarterbacks to take advantage of their\nsecondary this year, and Texas A&M won\u2019t have much time to\nprepare for LSU after facing Georgia this week. Burrow\u2019s only\npotential hiccup could be in the SEC Championship Game when the\nTigers face Georgia in Atlanta, but he will have likely done enough\nto win the award by that point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hurts is the\nsecond favorite per the Heisman\nTrophy betting odds<\/a>. He has posted incredible numbers\nthrough 10 games, but Oklahoma\u2019s marginal resume hurts his case.\nThe Sooners lost to Kansas State a few weeks ago, and they needed to\nhold off a late comeback attempt from Iowa State two weeks ago. Hurts\nled the biggest comeback in school history last week against Baylor,\nbut that didn\u2019t do anything to help his case given the public\nperception surrounding this team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s hard to\nsee a way he wins the award given Oklahoma\u2019s lack of quality\nopponents down the stretch. The Sooners will face TCU and Oklahoma\nState prior to the Big 12 Championship game, and most voters won\u2019t\nbat an eye at the result no matter what kind of numbers Hurts puts\nup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Fields\ndoes have an outside chance to win the Heisman Trophy. I have\nrepeatedly\ntrumped up<\/a> Fields\u2019 candidacy over the last two\nmonths, and Ohio State\u2019s remaining schedule gives him an outside\nshot. Fields might be the best player on the best team in the\ncountry, and the Buckeyes will be on center stage these next two\nweeks with games against Penn State and Michigan. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nittany Lions\nand Wolverines are the two best defenses Fields has faced this\nseason, and Ryan Day will likely let Fields loose for the first time\nall year. He has limited Fields by not allowing him to throw more\nthan 25 passes a game yet this season, but he probably needs to throw\nmore than that against two stingy run defenses. Fields will also run\nmore in those games, showing off his mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, we have to mention Tua Tagovailoa. The favorite to win the Heisman Trophy throughout September and most of last year suffered a devastating injury last week against Mississippi State, and he has played his last game for Alabama. Tagovailoa was seen as the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the injury throws that designation up in the air, and the only thing that matters for Tagovailoa is getting back to 100 percent. Here\u2019s hoping the best quarterback in modern Alabama history makes a full recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
