Joe Burrow is\nalmost certainly going to win the Heisman Trophy. In previous years,\nthere was some suspense with the announcement, but Burrow\u2019s play\nhas entrenched him as a massive favorite per the Heisman\nTrophy betting odds<\/a>. He was -125 to win the award just\na month ago, but an incredible night in Tuscaloosa will make it very\ndifficult for someone to beat him for the prize. This is the last\nweek of the regular season, and he has already made a strong case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burrow had\nsmashed all of LSU\u2019s single season passing records. He has\ncompleted 78.9 percent of his passes for 4,014 yards with 41\ntouchdowns and six interceptions. Burrow is set to break the national\nrecord for completion percentage in a season, and he has not had a\npoor performance in any game this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His arm has led\nLSU to four victories over top ten teams, and he has thrown for 300\nyards or more in nine of 11 games. His worst performance all year\ncame against Auburn when he completed 32 of 42 passes for 321 yards\nwith one touchdown and one interception, and his quarterback rating\nwas at least 185 in every other game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarterback is\nthe one position that has continually vexed LSU. The Tigers haven\u2019t\nhad a reliable quarterback in decades, and Burrow was not the answer\nlast season. He completed just 57.8 percent of his passes and was\naveraging 7.6 YPA then with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, so\nhis improvement has been remarkable. The only close comparison is\nCarson Palmer during his senior season in 2002, and Palmer went on to\nwin the Heisman Trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Fields is\nthe second favorite to\nwin the Heisman Trophy<\/a>. I have been calling Fields one\nof the best bets all season long, but there is no longer much value\nin the dual threat quarterback after mistakes led to Ohio State only\nbeating Penn State by 11 points last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fields fumbled\nthree times in that game, and this was a game that every voter\nwatched. It was a noon kickoff without any real competition in the\ntime slot, so he won\u2019t get the benefit of the doubt from those that\nperuse box scores. He did complete 16 of 22 passes for 188 yards and\ntwo touchdowns, and he did add 68 rushing yards, but that likely\nwon\u2019t be enough to sway voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Georgia\ntransfer does have fantastic numbers though. He has completed 69.4\npercent of his passes and is averaging 9.3 YPA with 33 touchdowns\nagainst just one interception. Fields is a fantastic running threat\ntoo with 445 yards and 10 touchdowns, but his teammate has a better\nchance to win the Heisman Trophy with his play on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chase Young is\nthe best defensive player in football by a mile. He has stormed into\nthe Heisman\nTrophy race<\/a> despite missing two games due to the\nNCAA\u2019s frivolous enforcement policies, and Young has a lot of\nthings going for him. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young has 16.5\nsacks this year with seven forced fumbles in just nine games. He has\nrisen to the occasion when it matters the most with four sacks\nagainst Wisconsin and three sacks against Penn State, and Young might\nhave 20 sacks already if he would have been allowed to take part in\nOhio State\u2019s blowouts of Rutgers and Maryland. His play has made\nthis the best defense in the nation, and Young can make one final\nstatement on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dominant\nperformance against Michigan coupled with an underwhelming\nperformance from Burrow in the last two games could lead to Young\npulling off the improbable upset. It\u2019s unlikely it happens, but he\nis the only other players with a real chance to beat out Burrow for\nthe award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jalen Hurts has some of the most impressive numbers in the country. However, Oklahoma\u2019s struggles for the last month have taken him out of the race. The Sooners have won their last three games by a combined eight points after losing to Kansas State, so it doesn\u2019t matter if he leads Oklahoma to blowout victories over Oklahoma State and Baylor in his last two outings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
