On Wednesday afternoon, the New York Yankees finalized their contract with star pitcher Gerrit Cole and introduced at a press conference. At the same time, the 2020 World Series odds were re-hung and the Yankees are now the World Series favorite. Let\u2019s take a quick look at the updated World Series odds<\/a> and take note of the teams most impacted by the early signings in free agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW YORK YANKEES
2020 WORLD SERIES ODDS: +325<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Yankees have landed the big fish: Gerrit Cole, who was close to untouchable for most of the 2019 season with the Houston Astros, is now a Yankee for a whopping $324 million price tag. The Yankees were willing to pony up the bucks for Cole, who becomes the uncontested No. 1 in the New York starting rotation. Cole gives the Yankees a postseason hammer whom they can send to the mound in Game 1 of a short series. Considering they were already a 103-win team without him, the Yankees have genuinely bolstered their 2020 chances with this move (not to mentioned one of their chief competitors, the Houston Astros).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LOS ANGELES DODGERS
2020 WORLD SERIES ODDS: +700<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Dodgers are second in line in terms of the World Series odds and are the National League favorite. They swung and missed with Gerrit Cole (who went to the Yankees) Madison Bumgarner (who went to the Arizona Diamondbacks) and Zack Wheeler (who went to the Philadelphia Phillies). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bumgarner staying in the National League and, moreover, the West, is a big annoyance for the Dodgers, who will have to deal with the big lefty on a regular basis once again in 2020. The Dodgers have tons of money, but they have had a reputation in recent years for not landing the very biggest fish in the pond when free agency or the hot stove periods arrive. The Dodgers are still loaded, but they are definitely taking a back seat to the Yankees in the baseball pecking order right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASHINGTON NATIONALS
2020 WORLD SERIES ODDS: +1400<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Nationals are the world champions, and they still have the high-end pitching which can be so good and so potent in a short series. Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer are still devastatingly effective pitchers who can, between them, throw four times in a best-of-five-game division series or possibly five times in a best-of-seven championship series. That will still keep them in the hunt. The Nationals also have Juan Soto, who played like a legitimate superstar in the World Series and the playoffs as a whole. Soto will only get better. However, losing Anthony Rendon to the Los Angeles Angels will hurt. This is a team that\u2019s always had the pitching but has lacked for hitting at times. They\u2019ve now lost Bryce Harper and Rendon in back-to-back offseason but with the pitching rotation of Scherzer-Strasburg-Patrick Corbin, they should be in contention for a playoff spot in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LOS ANGELES ANGELS
2020 WORLD SERIES ODDS: +1600<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Angels have arguably seen the biggest boost in terms of their odds as they\u2019ve made a number of moves in the offseason. They will create interest since Joe Maddon is now their manager after having won the World Series with the Chicago Cubs and having guided the Tampa Bay Rays to the World Series eight years before that. Maddon is a highly respected manager who gives the Angels added instant credibility. The other big reason the Angels will get more buzz this season is that they got Anthony Rendon from the world champion Nationals. Rendon will give Mike Trout more help in the Halos\u2019 batting order, giving Los Angeles a deeper and more balanced batting order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They still need to add more pitching but getting Rendon was a huge positive step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
