While we’re still a ways away, the Heisman Trophy odds have been posted on the board and to no one’s surprise, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the favorite as we enter the offseason.

TREVOR LAWRENCE, CLEMSON QB
HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS: +350

The common-sense choice is Lawrence, who did not have an especially strong 2019 regular season but made clutch plays in the College Football Playoff semifinal game at the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State, and brought Clemson back to the national championship game for the second straight year. Lawrence is clearly in line to be the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and he’ll have every incentive to improve his level of play in 2020 from 2019. He wasn’t bad last year as 3,665 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions is a great line. However, given the feeble competition, his numbers could have been better.

Lawrence’s increased experience, playing under the pressure of being the quarterback every opposing defense desperately fights to stop, should pay off for him in 2020, leading to a more statistically productive season than anything he had in 2019.

JUSTIN FIELDS, OHIO STATE QB
HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS: +400

The other especially likely Heisman Trophy finalist who should get a ticket to New York next December is Fields, who was sensational for Ohio State in 2019. He threw only one interception during the regular season and his late interception against Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals was the fault of receiver Chris Olave, not Fields. The fact that Fields is a dual-threat quarterback means he should rack up big numbers as both a passer and a rusher. Last season, he had 3,273 passing yards and 41 passing touchdowns, then added 484 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

If Lawrence is not on top of his game and Fields replicates the season he had in 2019, Fields would have the upper hand.

CHUBA HUBBARD, OKLAHOMA STATE RB
HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS: +1000

The Oklahoma State running back will need to not only produce big numbers; Chuba Hubbard will need to lift Oklahoma State to the Big 12 Championship Game or to 10 wins. The first seems likely as we’re talking about a running back that led the country in rushing last season with 2,094 rushing yards, was first in attempts and was tied for third with 21 rushing touchdowns. However, it is hard to see raw statistics being enough to carry Hubbard to the Heisman. He needs a team achievement to get the attention of voters across the country.

KEDON SLOVIS, USC QB
HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS: +1000

The Slovis Heisman candidacy is fascinating. USC might not be a great team, but Slovis could load up the stat sheet. He has a year of experience and although he endured a slew of injuries last year, he still led USC to a second-place finish in the Pac-12 South Division. USC quarterbacks, if they play really well, will compete for Heisman Trophies even in seasons when the Trojans don’t play for the national championship.

The question is will USC be relevant in 2020? This is a team that’s faded in terms of their national standing under Clay Helton. If they don’t make much noise, Slovis won’t be in the running.

MAC JONES, ALABAMA QB
HEISMAN TROPHY ODDS: +1000

The Jones candidacy is strengthened by the reality that Alabama will have multiple receivers in 2020 who should be taken in future NFL Drafts. If Jones beats the USC Trojans when they square off with Alabama early in the year, he will get an immediate boost to his candidacy.

Jones might be on the best team in the country in 2020 and if he continues to develop as a passer, there’s a good chance he’ll be one of the finalists at the end of the season.

Get the latest college football odds and information–follow BetOnline.ag on Twitter!

BetOnline.ag on Instagram–Follow for the latest odds, stats and information!

Trevor Lawrence Justin Fields Chuba Hubbard Kedon Slovis Mac Jones The 2019 college football season is over, which means everyone’s…

[133

post-8662","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ncaaf
["GET
