Following the news, they decided to move on from Beltran and have since hired Luis Rojas as their new manager. The 38-year-old will take over for Beltran in what will be his first Major League managerial role after being originally hired by the Mets to be their quality control coach this offseason. The New York Mets regular season win total has opened up at 86.5 but can he get the Mets to at least 87 wins?

NEW YORK METS REGULAR SEASON WINS

OVER 86.5 -115
UNDER 86.5 -115

METS FINISHED STRONG

Although most people view the Mets 2019 campaign as a lost year, it wasn’t all bad. Sure, they entered the season with World Series aspirations and while they were never really a serious contender, they did finish the campaign 86-76. The main issue is that they dug themselves a huge hole as they were 11 games under .500 after the All-Star break. They ended up finishing the season on a 46-25 tear – including a 19-10 run to end the campaign – but it wasn’t enough.

However, it has brought up the question as to how good can this team be in a full campaign if they can carry over that performance?

The Mets did a lot of things right after the All-Star break, finishing fourth in team ERA (3.48) and seventh in opponent batting average (.239). Their offense perked up too as they were eighth in batting average and ninth in runs scored after the break.

METS TINKERING WITH ROSTER

The Mets have been mostly quiet in the offseason but they have made a couple of key changes. They allowed starter Zack Wheeler to walk in free agency, which stings. He signed a five-year, $118 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. The good news is the Mets are deep in terms of starting pitching – especially after acquiring Marcus Stroman at last year’s trade deadline. The Mets did sign Dellin Betances, who posted a 2.22 ERA with 607 strikeouts between 2014 and 2018, so the hope is that he can solidify a bullpen, which was a big question mark last season. The team will also need a bounce back year from Edwin Diaz, who posted an ERA of 5.59 last season along with a WHIP of 1.38. He had just 26 saves along with seven blown saves. Diaz had a 1.96 ERA in 2018 with 57 saves and just four blown saves. If those two can help fortify what was arguably the worst aspect of the team last year, the starting pitching can stay strong and the bats perform like they did in the second half, the Mets could, in fact, be a playoff contender in their first year under Rojas. They won 86 games last year, so they need just one more to hit the over for their 2020 regular season win total.

Get the latest Major League Baseball odds and information–follow BetOnline.ag on Twitter!

BetOnline.ag on Instagram–Follow for the latest odds, stats and information!

The New York Mets felt the ripple effect of the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal as their newly-hired manager, Carlos Beltran,…

[136

post-8735","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mlb
["GET
