If you have a Cincinnati Bengals fan in your life, then you know the last couple of weeks have been a time of panic and intrigue, fever, delirium and cold sweats. It could be over the team\u2019s presumptive 2020 quarterback Joe Burrow or it could be the coronavirus. There\u2019s no way to tell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s\nthe gist of the story in case you\u2019ve managed to miss it as you\ndon\u2019t follow or care about anything to do with the NFL franchise in\nCincinnati. Burrow, the presumptive (and he should be) No. 1 pick in\nthe upcoming NFL Draft hasn\u2019t seemed as excited to join the team in\nrecent interviews. In fact, he\u2019s said things like this on The\nDan Patrick Show<\/a> before the Super Bowl\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou want to go No. 1, but you also want to go to a great organization that\u2019s committed to winning Super Bowls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGreat organization?\u201d \u201cCommitted to winning?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\ndon\u2019t know why Burrow would feel the Bengals, who haven\u2019t won a\nplayoff game since 1990 and have one of the four worst front offices\nin the NFL, wouldn\u2019t click those two boxes. It just doesn\u2019t make\nsense. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s\nthe thing. There\u2019s a reason teams get the No. 1 overall pick and\nit\u2019s not because they were \u201ccommitted to winning\u201d or \u201cgreat\norganizations.\u201d A disaster has happened and it\u2019s finally blown up\nthe team. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still,\nall it takes is a change in culture, coach and quarterback and\nsuddenly you\u2019re a whole new franchise. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burrow is apparently training with Jordan Palmer, a former Bengal himself and brother to Carson Palmer. Big brother Carson\u2019s disdain for Cincy is well known. He \u201cretired\u201d in 2011 to never play a down for them again and was packed off to the Oakland Raiders before the trade deadline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carson\ndidn\u2019t believe the Bengals were \u201call-in\u201d on a championship. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s\nwhy I wanted out,\u201d Palmer told CBS Sports Radio. \u201cI never felt\nlike the organization was really trying to win a Super bowl and\nreally chasing a Super Bowl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nended up in Arizona and had a nice bookend to a largely forgettable\ncareer. But we\u2019ll get back to that. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Li\u2019l\nbro Jordan, I would guess, shares his brother\u2019s opinion on the\nBengals in spite of the fact that the team tossed him a back up job\nfor three years just to make his big brother happy. Are you really\ngoing to take career advice from a guy that has thrown just 18 passes\nin the NFL in his life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s\nthe thing about Carson\u2019s critique of the Bengals. If they weren\u2019t\n\u201cAll-In\u201d back when he was there, he was a big part of that. He\ngot knocked out of his first playoff game in 2005, but in 2009 he had\na shot at home facing a Mark Sanchez quarterbacked and Rex Ryan\ncoached New York Jets team and promptly posted a 58.3 passer rating. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nyear he decided he was done with Cincy because they weren\u2019t trying\nto win a championship they drafted A.J. Green at No. 1 for him to\nthrow the ball to and Andy Dalton in the second round to back him up\nin case he went down with an injury again (as he would for the rest\nof his career). Say what you will about the Bengals and Mike Brown,\nbut those weren\u2019t draft moves from a team not trying to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
