The 2019 Baltimore Orioles had a season to forget. With a record of 54-108, the O\u2019s limped to the finish line and made it clear that they will be in the cellar of the American League East for a few more years. While the New York Yankees dominate, the Tampa Bay Rays thrive as a wild card-level team, the Boston Red Sox continue to produce winning seasons, and the Toronto Blue Jays stock up on elite young prospects, the Orioles are without question the fifth wheel in the AL East. The question this upcoming season isn\u2019t if they will finish last in their division, it\u2019s if they can improve by at least 10 games and show some signs of progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can they prove everyone wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n TO WIN WORLD SERIES: +25000 The Orioles have a lot of farm-grown talent they will try to cultivate this season. Baltimore\u2019s roster is stuffed with no-name players not generally recognizable to the casual baseball fan. One of the few notable moves the Orioles made this past offseason was to acquire Jose Iglesias, who spent 2019 with the Cincinnati Reds and developed his major league career with the Detroit Tigers. Iglesias is this era\u2019s version of Omar Vizquel, a player who knows how to handle the bat but hits for very little power, and who makes his money by fielding and throwing brilliantly. Iglesias makes the kinds of plays at shortstop which very few other shortstops can make. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Orioles will win 65 games. Winning only 54 games with a hollowed-out roster was a miserable experience for every Baltimore player last year. Having a season that awful shows a team that it is immersed in a long-term process of rebuilding. Success can\u2019t be defined the same way for every team. Baltimore just needs to gain by 10 or more games (not expecting anything beyond a 15-game improvement, which would be incredible). That would be a positive experience heading into 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Austin Hays is viewed by many in baseball as the talented young prospect who is the ultimate future of the Oriole franchise and if he has a big year and wins respect and trust in the dugout from his teammates, the O\u2019s would have something specific to build around in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Orioles will remain under 60 wins, which means they would lose at least 100 games for yet another season.
