Alabama has opened up as a -3 favorite over LSU, Notre Dame has opened as a 13.5-point favorite over Navy and USC is -6.5 over Stanford. The Tigers still have Trevor Lawrence at quarterback, and they will still have Travis Etienne at running back, easily the best returning combination of quarterback and running back in the country. Clemson\u2019s offense is going to be devastatingly effective and potent this season. It is going to be next to impossible to contain the Tigers, who will not only have great high-end talent, but experienced high-end talent. Clemson will lose a few pieces of its defense, but the offense is going to compensate for those losses, and then some. Clemson\u2019s defense just has to be decent in the upcoming season, because the offense will score 38 or more points in nearly every game. One also has to realize that no team in the ACC is anywhere close to Clemson. The ACC is weak precisely at the same time that the Tigers are supremely strong. Clemson should definitely make the national championship game; it would be an enormous surprise if that did not happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Buckeyes have Justin Fields back at quarterback, which means their offense is in a position to thrive. Fields threw only one interception in the 2019 regular season. His interception at the very end of the Fiesta Bowl against Clemson was not his fault; it was a product of receiver Chris Olave making the wrong read of the defense and the wrong break on the ball. Fields will continue to make excellent decisions; combined with his speed and agility, he is going to remain a nightmare for opposing defenses to deal with. Ohio State\u2019s offense should remain elite, and much like Clemson, the Buckeyes just need their defense to be moderately good. Ohio State doesn\u2019t need extraordinary performances on defense, since the offense is going to be phenomenal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Crimson Tide have the best wide receivers in college football, even with the players they lost to the NFL this past cycle. Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs will go to the pros, but Jaylen Waddle is just as fast and explosive as his two former teammates. Alabama is still going to be a headache for other SEC teams, and quarterback Mac Jones received valuable experience backing up Tua Tagovailoa this past season. That crucial experience will greatly ease his transition into the permanent starting quarterback role. Alabama\u2019s offense should be fine. Modest defensive improvement should enable the Crimson Tide to win the SEC again after LSU won it last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bulldogs keep recruiting really well, but their offense was very limited last season, and quarterback Jake Fromm went to the NFL. Georgia faces new uncertainties after a season in which LSU badly outplayed the Dawgs in the SEC Championship Game. Georgia\u2019s path to the SEC title will not be a smooth one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
