NBA Basketball Betting: Daily Picks for Wednesday December 23

Posted by The Wiesguy on 12/22/2015 8:08:38 PM

There is no NBA action on Christmas Eve so we get a pretty decent slate for the day before, hopefully you have completed your shopping so you can enjoy. There may be better promoted matchups on Christmas Day but all of these include teams with winning records that are playoff hopefuls in their respective conferences.

Game 1: Boston Celtics vs. Charlotte Hornets

Boston snapped a three game losing streak at home against Minnesota to start the week. The Celtics are one of top scoring teams in the league and they got the win despite the fact that leading scorer Isaiah Thomas had a season low eight points. That is actually a good sign as it shows the depth of Boston - one of their strengths. Charlotte has dropped their last two games and will be without Big Al Jefferson for this one. They are searching for consistent scoring options without him in the lineup other than Kemba Walker. Their lack of depth is a concern.

Prediction: The Celtics look right to continue their winning ways with a mild upset of Charlotte. I am not really a fan of either of these teams but Boston is in the far better form right now.

Game 2: Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic

The Magic may be getting some winning results but I am not a fan of the makeup of this team. They have been stockpiling top picks but only player I really like us the very underrated Nikola Vucevic. PG Elfrid Payton is holding this modest team back in my opinion because he just can’t shoot. This season has really been a struggle for Houston which has had to win seven of its last ten just to get above .500. James Harden is as hard to stop as ever but beyond that they never know from game to game who they can count on for points. Dwight Howard is near a career low in points per game.

Prediction: I think the Rockets might get a couple of points here so once again I am suggesting the road underdog. Look for Harden to have a big game and lead the team to an upset.

Game 3: Detroit Pistons vs. Atlanta Hawks

One of the most consistent teams of a year ago, the Hawks, have been streaky this season. Right now they are on a four game winning streak that has them tied with Cleveland for the most wins in the East though. On Wednesday Detroit comes calling, looking to repeat the performance that saw the Pistons beat up on the Hawks on opening night. Andre Drummond was unstoppable that night with 18 points and 19 rebounds. A preview of his MVP calibre season to date.

Prediction : The Pistons were +7 on opening night but look for a smaller spread this time around. Something like +3 or 4 seems right. How about a clean sweep with road underdogs claiming upsets heading into the break? I like those odds. Take Detroit.
