College Football Betting: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Michigan State Spartans Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 12/24/2015 3:00:30 AM

Alabama may be a significant favourite in this one but I still think the committee got it right when they cast the Spartans into the playoffs. MSU has been one of the most fortunate teams all season long but I am confident they will have a gameplan to try and takedown college football’s most talented roster. And they have an advantage at quarterback. Don’t dismiss this one.

Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1) vs. Michigan State Spartans (12-1)

Thursday December 31

AT&T Stadium - Arlington, Texas

Crimson Tide -9.5, 47

The Tide are not perfect or else they would have certainly claimed the top playoff spot over Clemson. Their lone blemish was a loss to a pretty good Ole Miss team and only one of their wins was by a single score or less. These guys are good, led by the simple staples of a power running game, featuring Heisman winner Derrick Henry, and one of the best defenses in the country. You have to think they might have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder too after losing to Ohio State in the playoffs last year. They will look to take it out on another Big Ten team this season.

Michigan State

I don’t want to make too much of some of the luck the Spartans have experienced this season. They are one of the better coached teams in America and have great leadership on the field in the form of senior QB Connor Cook. They won’t deviate from their plans too much in this one, it will just come down to execution. Cook will have to make some plays and perhaps force the action a little because Bama doesn’t give you much but as long as he takes smart risks MSU can be in this one all game. The key will be keeping their emotions in check. This is the level they have been trying to get to for the last few seasons and now they are finally here.

Prediction: Last year in the loss to OSU the Tide couldn’t handle the running game of the Buckeyes. That is not a strength for MSU so this game will be different from the outset. I think the first half will be kind of boring unless Henry overpowers everyone on the field. Assuming they can tackle him I think this one is determined late. Therefore I think the better value is on the Michigan State side. Especially if it gets to an even 10 points.

Pick: Michigan State +9.5
