College Football Betting: Auburn Tigers vs. Louisville Cardinals Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 8/27/2015 11:58:53 PM

There are a number of SEC vs. ACC matchups over the course of the season. This one may not be the best but it might be the most important because it will help set the tone for the season. At Auburn expectations are very high, they are ranked in the Top Ten, and are expected to push for a playoff spot. At Louisville, the Cardinals might be flying below the radar but if they win this game they will put teams like Florida State and Clemson on notice that they are going to be a threat this season. No matter the outcome a pretty good team is going to start the season with a loss.

Auburn Tigers vs. Louisville Cardinals

Saturday September 5

Georgia Dome - Atlanta, GA

Auburn -10.5

It is only a few seasons ago that Auburn won a title led by QB Cam Newton, and even more recently they lost in the title game to FSU, but neither of those teams was as highly touted coming into the season as this one is. In QB Jeremy Johnson the Tigers have a thrower that can thrive in their impressive running attack. Also, with Will Muschamp brought in to coordinate the defense, and eight starters returning on that side of the ball, they should have enough on D to compete in the rugged SEC. There is lots of mixed opinion on whether the Tigers are going to be good or elite making this is a game a must if they want to achieve their objectives.

I am bullish on Louisville this season. Thanks to some high level transfers like LB Devonte Fields (former B12 defensive frosh of the year) they should be very strong on defense again this season. On offense they still have to settle on a quarterback but they have good options and coach Bobby Petrino has a strong reputation as a developer of the position. RB Brandon Radcliff is a banger and he will have to bring that attitude in this game. If they are going to beat the Tigers they are going to have to smack them in the mouth so to speak on both sides of the ball. Win or lose they are looking to gain some respect for themselves and the ACC.

Prediction: I think the oddsmakers are giving the Tigers a little too much respect in this one. Johnson will be making his first start and this is not a cupcake home game. Further I think the Cards will be able to force him to make some key plays in the passing game. If he can't or is inconsistent I don't think they are going to be able to cover that two score spread. Louisville has question marks too but they are not being asked to give up the points. I think they are the better play.

Louisville +10.5
