College Football Betting: Christmas Week Bowls to Catch

Posted by The Wiesguy on 12/22/2015 6:29:22 AM

I know the really big bowl games, including the playoffs, are next week but that doesn’t mean we are not going to be sneaking some college football action as Christmas approaches. So far the bowls have been mostly competitive here are some games that should deliver some value for bettors.

GoDaddy Bowl

Georgia Southern Eagles vs. Bowling Green Falcons

Over 65

Battle of the Birds here. I think both are going to find plenty to eat as this one soars over the total. Georgia Southern is the top rushing team in college football. They nearly beat Georgia and roughed up a good SEC defence for more than 220 yards in the process. They will move the ball and score against the Falcons. The question is whether it will be enough to out do Matt Johnson and one of the top aerial attacks in college football. Don’t pick sides just take the over and be done with it. This one should be fun.

Popeyes Bahamas Bowl

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Western Michigan Broncos

Over 63.5

MTU finished hot with wins in five of their last six. They are a popular upset pick but given I haven’t seen them play all season long the total is more enticing to me. They have a nice story with the QB being the coach’s son and are averaging 34ppg. The Broncos use one of the more balanced offenses around to average just a little bit more and since neither team has much of a defensive identity I don’t see why this won’t be a back and forth affair. Down in the Bahamas the hitting is not likely to be too hard.

Hyundai Sun Bowl

Miami Hurricanes vs. Washington State Cougars

Miami +3

I have to admit that I am a victim of the 80s/90s Hurricanes hype factory. Those teams were so dominating it is hard to reconcile with the current version. Despite those blinders I still believe the U is being discounted here. The Cougars are going to throw it all over the yard but Miami has the athletes, if not the discipline, to make some plays. Plus when they have the ball QB Brad Kaaya is proving to be one of the up and comers at the position nationally. Throw in positive emotions from the Mark Richt hiring and they are primed for an upset.

Camping World Independence Bowl

Tulsa Golden Hurricane vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

Tulsa +13.5

This is going to be the last game in the career of Hokies coach Frank Beamer. Virginia Tech is the better team. However, it is very difficult to make the case they should be a two TD favourite. First of all this team struggles to score and second of all they are not the dominant defensive unit we all know and love. Add to that they only three of their wins (against FBS opponents) have been by this margin and I think the odds are good this one stays pretty close. Tulsa may be terrible on D but they can put points in the board. Take the underdog.
