College Football Betting: Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 9/3/2015 10:26:38 PM

The Ohio State Buckeyes are defending national champs and have a great chance to repeat thanks to an unfair amount of returning talent. They are the first team to ever be unanimous as the top team in AP preseason poll and the Vegas experts are not disagreeing. Adding to all that hype is that they are starting the season looking to avenge a loss to the last team that beat them. Not bad for the prime time close to the first week of the season.

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

Monday September 7

8:00PM

Lane Stadium - Blacksburg, Virginia

Ohio State -14, 52.5

Ohio State

I don’t argue with the assessment that OSU is the best team in America, however, it is interesting that they can be a two touchdown favourite even though they head into this one without a defined starter at QB and missing their top defensive player...and on the road. The Buckeyes truly have an embarrassment of riches right now thanks to a stellar offensive line and one of the best running backs in the nation in Ezekiel Elliot. That QB controversy I mentioned, well it is among two players are going to play in the NFL and who beat out a two time conference player of the year in Braxton Miller. All of this stuff has been written about extensively this offseason. Let’s see how things play out before anointing this group the best team ever.

Virginia Tech

The Hokies program is down a bit these days but they did beat Ohio State last season, at the Horseshoe, and even though that was just one game they have a chance to show they are bridging the gap this season with a strong opener. The strength of this team will once again be the defense. They are stout up front and might have the best cornerback in college in Kyle Fuller. The defense can keep them in the game but they also need Michael Brewer and the offense to do something. Odds are Ohio State is not going to let the running game get loose so Brewer has to be sharp and hit a couple of big plays. I think they can hang with the Buckeyes once again.

Prediction: I really like the Hokies in this one…though not necessarily to upset. It is rare you can get a home opener like this and have all the pressure be on the opposite side of the field but such is the case with the expectations surrounding Ohio State. Two full touchdowns is a lot to ask on the road against a very good defense. If the Hokies are winning at halftime you might want to take a flyer on the upset then.

Virginia Tech +14
