NFL Football Betting: New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 12/31/2015 3:43:17 AM

The Eagles fired coach Chip Kelly for not producing enough wins on the field this season. The Giants should probably fire their coach too. Either way, this one is meaningless as two division rivals look to finish their season with another win and a little bit of pride. It will be very difficult to handicap this final performance.

Philadelphia Eagles (6-9) vs. New York Giants (6-9)

Sunday January 3

1:00PM

MetLife Stadium - Meadowlands, New Jersey

Giants -3.5, 51.5

Philadelphia

I am not surprised that Kelly was axed but I see little value in letting him go with a game left in the season, unless things had gotten just too toxic in Philly. Their system was so tied to his leadership it is hard to predict how they are going to play in this one, will they still go with the uptempo offense that he is known for? It may not have always worked (like all of this year it didn’t) but that was a primary source of their advantage. If they are going to just lineup and try and beat people they may not have the personnel to do so even in a no win/no lose meaningless situation like this where anything goes. They are a mess.

New York

The Giants have slumped down the stretch winning just one of their last six games. Not that they were all that good prior to that but they were the odds on favourite to win the division not that long ago. Mostly it has been terrible defense that has done in New York this season. Not team in the league has given up more yards, which is impressive because there are some pretty bad units out there. On offense at least they will have the services of Odell Beckham Jr. again this week. He has had another monster season and at the very least is worth checking out for his ability to make jaw dropping plays.

Prediction: The Eagles dominated when these teams met earlier in the year but it is hard to make a case for them being competitive in this one. The coaching situation is a negative and they are on the road to boot. Plus it is likely to be a little cold, or a lot cold. Not exactly the kind of environment/situation where you expect players to scratch and claw for every yard on the field. All New York should have to do is be efficient early and they will crumble.

Pick: Giants -3.5
