NFL Football Betting: Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 12/1/2015 8:32:24 PM

After taking control of the division a couple of weeks ago the Packers are back in second place heading into this one. They also can’t count on this one being a gimme given they lost to Detroit at home for the first time in forever not all that long ago. This should be a mismatch but the Packers are not the team we thought they would be this season. Making that number oh so very inviting.

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

Thursday December 3

Ford Field - Detroit, Michigan

Packers -3, 46.5

Green Bay

Just when you think the Packers might be turning around their season they lay a stinker by losing at home to Chicago. It was another of those games where the offense seemed to vanish as the Packers could not put any points on the board in the second half against the Bears...and they were at home. This team has been as schizophrenic as any this season but they can get back on track against a weak Detroit team. When they played last month Aaron Rodgers picked the Lions apart but they couldn’t convert for points scoring only 16. I am expecting more of the same with more to show for it this time around.

The Lions have won three in a row but they were so bad in the first half that it is only making them respectable instead of being part of a playoff push. Last week the offense exploded as they scored 45 against the Eagles, more than they had in their two previous wins combined. Matt Stafford was brilliant and proved once again what a tease he can be. He has all the talent but not always the heart or the head. When they beat Green Bay a few weeks ago he was good but not great and they need him to not bury them in a hole to have a chance against what will be a more desperate Green Bay team.

Prediction: I know we are getting closer to the end of the season but for this one I think it is important to put lines in context. If you could have gotten Green Bay -3 for this one in August you would have jumped all over it, right? I know the context has changed but I think it has created an opportunity. They don’t have to dominate just beat them soundly and I think they will.

Pick: Green Bay -3
