Running Back Joe Mixon Creates a Dilemma for the NFL

The NFL claims to be at war against domestic violence. NOW the league must figure out what to do with talented Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon.

He is a first-round talent but what team will take him in the first round after his attorney released a video of him punching a woman in the face in advance of a court order to have it released?

The woman sustained four broken bones in her face. He was suspended a year but allowed to play last season when Mixon ran for 1,274 yards and 10 touchdowns and also caught 37 passes for 538 yards and five touchdowns.

Any team that selects him will be getting a good talent. But it will also be getting a public relations night mare as it tries to explain to its fan base why an abuser was placed on the roster. He was suspended his freshman season and entered an Alfred Plea to assault and served 100 hours of community service and underwent counseling. The Alfred plea means he does not admit to guilt but believes the prosecution could prove its case.

NFL teams will say that the incident happened over a year ago and that he seems like a changed person. Oklahoma coaches have vouched for him to every scout and general manager that talks to them. After the coming out party of Dallas Cowboys rookie of the year Ezekial Elliott everybody will be looking for their rookie stud.

Mixon could be the second or third running back selected behind Leonard Fournette of LSU and Florida State’s Dalvin Cook. Several mock drafts have Mixon slipping out of the first round because teams are uncertain if he is worth the risk.
