2015 NFL Football Betting – Texans vs. Bengals Preview

Posted by Stan Simmons on 11/13/2015 8:44:09 PM

The NFL football season continues this Monday, and the Cincinnati Bengals, well into November, have still not lost a game. It’s been a special season for head coach Marvin Lewis, who might finally be turning the corner with his team.

Houston Texans @ Cincinnati Bengals – Monday, November 16

Betting Line: Bengals -10.5

Why The Texans Will Win

This is a game the Texans partly because the Bengals might get a little bored or distracted, thinking about other bigger games later in the NFL season. It’s human nature for a team to step off the gas pedal when everything’s going right. NFL teams don’t go 16-0 for very good and understandable reasons, so you can imagine that Cincinnati might play down to the level of its competition. The other basic reason the Texans can win is that they have J.J. Watt, a disruptive player and a superstar, someone who could sack Andy Dalton and cause a fumble, or who might bother Dalton enough to create a pick-six which could turn the game around. The Texans aren’t very good this year, but they have bothered the Bengals in the past. In fact, not too long ago (a few years, but not more than that), Houston beat Cincinnati in consecutive AFC Wild Card Game showdowns, even without a great offense. The Texans have a few defensive players who can force turnovers and immediately redraw the lines of this contest,

Why The Bengals Will Win

The Bengals are simply the much better team. Houston has no identity on offense, with Arian Foster injured and no solution coming to the fore at quarterback. Coach Bill O’Brien has been beset with problems throughout the season at quarterback. Ryan Mallett has not behaved well, missing flights and meetings and being very inattentive to what the coaching staff has needed him to do. Veteran and career backup Brian Hoyer got his chance as a starter, after briefly succeeding as Cleveland’s number one quarterback before an injury derailed his progress. However, this tour of duty for Hoyer did not go as well as his pre-injury stint in Cleveland. The Texans don’t have Andre Johnson anymore – he’s with the Indianapolis Colts. The cupboard is simply bare for this offense, and Cincinnati is the exact opposite.

Receiver A.J. Green. Halfback Gio Bernard. Tight end Tyler Eifert, These and other players give the Bengals some of the best talent in the NFL, and they’re putting it to good use in combination with their great defense, which defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago. Everything’s coming together for the Bengals, and at home against one of the worst teams in football, it will be almost impossible for the Bengals to somehow mess this thing up. Andy Dalton is not committing the big turnovers that have hurt this team in the past. The Bengals are just more responsible, and that’s how they’ll win here.

Who Will Win

The idea that Houston can even stay close is just about impossible to defend. Cincinnati will have to be well below average in this game for Houston to cover. Take the Bengals.
