MMA Betting: UFC Fight Night Mir vs. Duffee Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 7/9/2015 10:33:35 PM

The next UFC Fight Night is coming your way from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. The marquee bout features former champ Frank Mir against up and coming challenger Todd Duffee. Per usual there was a lot of would haves and could haves in terms of who wound up being on the final card for the event.

If you follow UFC and like heavyweights than you know about Frank Mir. He has been on the scene since 2001 and the former champ has beaten the likes of legends Tank Abbott and Brock Lesnar. He had a recent stretch where he lost four matches in a row though, which is probably why he is the underdog here, but he won his last fight against Antonio Silva in February. Todd Duffee is an up and comer but he has still not beaten anyone yet. Even though he is a significant favourite at -175 it would still get some attention if he can drop a name like Mir.

The biggest favourite on the draw is Alan Jouban at -400. The welterweight is 12-3 and this is his third appearance on UFC Fight Night. He takes on Canadian Matt Dwyer, who is also making his third appearance on the program. Dwyer was a champ in the BFL but is just 1-1 in UFC. Win or lose everyone of his fights has been a knockout so you should be able to get some good action in this bout no matter the outcome.

For those fans of ladies there should be a pretty good match between Holly Holm and Marion Reneau. Holm had a long and very successful boxing career and since entering mixed martial arts has amassed a perfect record. This will be just her second bout in UFC but you have to wonder if they might be eyeing to put her in the ring with Ronda Rousey at some point. Reneau is no spring chicken at age 38 but just like Holm, she is just outside the Top Ten for the weight category. I think it is safe to say that whoever wins will get a nice bump.

Between the ladies and the main event will be Tony Ferguson taking on Josh Thomson. Ferguson gained notoriety by being the winner in the Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale and since then has lost only once. He is currently 12th in the MMA Junkie lightweight rankings and this bout should help him move up as Thomson is in the top 20 as well. This is his first time appearing on Fight Night show and in his last fight at UFC 184 he had the Performance of the Night. Thomson made a name for himself in Strikeforce, where he was a onetime U.S. Lightweight Champ. In UFC the results have not been as good as he is just 1-2 after two straight losses. He has not won a fight in more than two years so the +155 is more than justified.
