UFC Betting: UFC 170: Rousey vs McMann Preview

Posted by The Wiseguy on 2/17/2014 9:01:40 PM

The next big UFC card, UFC 170, will be held on Saturday February 22 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center - Las Vegas. The title bout for this event will be a battle for the female bantamweight title between Ronda Rousey, the champion, and Sara McMann. Rousey, with her model good looks and ability to knock your lights out is always a fan favourite so this card should have plenty of attention.

The title bout between Rousey and McMann should be a good one. Rousey’s hot looks can’t hide the fact that she is a perfect 8-0. Her preferred strategy is to get opponents to the mat and then win by submission - and you can’t argue with the results. She has never had let a fight go to a decision and even though McCann looks more powerful these fighters are the same weight and Rousey probably has an advantage in terms of reach as she is slightly taller. The champ is -400 to defend her title. Since there isn’t much value there if you like Rousey you may want to look closely at some of the available props. You can get -160 that she wins by submission, which based on her history is very probable but with much more lucrative odds than just choosing her as the victor.

While Rousey courts the spotlight McMann prefers to let her fighting speak for itself. She has not fought since April of last year so you wonder if there could be a little bit of rust that might favour Rousey, who defended her title back in December.  There is no doubting the former Olympic wrestler is tough though. She was the first American woman to receive a medal in the sport, silver at Athens in 2004. McMann has a variety of very profitable odds to consider. One I am looking at is whether the fight goes longer than 1 and a half rounds. The payoff on that is only -170 but that is because most think Rousey will make quick work of her. This bets gets you a little bit of McMann action without having to go all the way and say she will win.

If you like undefeated fighters than this card is the one for you. In addition to the ladies there are 5 undefeated fighters on this card including a battle of unbeatens in the main event undercard. That bout is between Daniel Cormier and Patrick Cummins. Cormier looks soft but the undefeated heavyweight is 13-0 and beat the legendary Frank Mir last year. Patrick “Durkin” Cummins has only 4 fights under his best but the light heavyweight has a nasty side and none of his fights have gone as long as two rounds. The more experienced Cormier is the very heavy favourite at -1500.

The other unbeaten fighters are Pedro “The Young Punisher” Munoz who will be taking on Raphael Assuncao; Aljamain Sterling, who will tangle with Cody Gibson; and Ernest Chavez who will fight Yosdenis Cedeno.
