MMA Betting: UFC Miocic-Hunt Main Card Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 5/4/2015 11:07:36 PM

The UFC is heading Down Under for UFC Fight Night 65 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia on Sunday May 10. The feature bout is a heavyweight tilt between top contender Stipe Miocic and Mark Hunt. The UFC which has one of the broadest followings in the world has never been to South Australia before.

I suppose whatever the next card was after The Fight was going to be pretty anticlimactic but this looks like a pretty good slate. Hunt is a local boy and the last time he fought in his home country it was memorable. This is very interesting fight because these fighters could not be more different. Miocic has a significant length advantage and is much younger but Hunt, who weighs 20 pounds more knows how to take a punch, even if he plants his body in front of too many of them. Miocic is -200 and you don’t want to get too caught up in the location when predicting a fight. He is 12-2 but lost his last bout.

In the lightweight division there will be a battle of unbeatens between Jake Matthews and James Vick. Matthews, an Aussie, is the current favourite at -165, but this should be a contest. Both of these fighters have not fought since November and are looking to prove they can be contenders in the weight class. Whoever wins definitely gets a boost in that regard.

There are more undefeated fighters on the card on Saturday as Jonavin Webb (8-0) and Daniel Kelly (9-0) take on Kyle Noke and Sam Alvey respectively. Both Webb and Kelly could be buying opportunities as they are underdogs against much more experienced fighters. I like Webb’s chances best as Noke has not fought in more than a year and he might be being underrated because he hasn’t seen UFC action. He is +100. I think Kelly also has a good chance. He dipped his toe in UFC waters a couple of months back and is also underrated thanks to his resume being very local to Australia. Alvey is a much more accomplished opponent and probably fair value at -385. He is very impressive at times.

According to the oddsmakers the top fight on the board will be Dylan Andrews vs. Brad Scott. Dylan the Villain is from New Zealand but he has lost his last two fights, both by knockout. He can put a hurt on an opponent too, but at 35 time might be passing him by. Brad the Bear is not exactly striking a lot of fear lately. He lost his last fight which was more than a year ago. Further, a lot of his early success was not on the UFC circuit.

Last, but not least, there is one ladies bout on this card. Lisa Ellis takes on Bec Rawlings in a little bit of Beauty and the Beast action. Rawlings is a tatted up local who is expected to beat down Ellis. Ellis has a 15-9 record overall but she is just 4-6 in her last 10 fights. She can fight but she is not also a little easier on the eyes. Probably best to put your money on Rawlings.
