Gasly, Sainz, Stroll in Italian Grand Prix Podium

In a race that will surely go down as the wildest of the 2020 Formula 1 season, AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly held off McLaren’s Carlos Sainz to earn his first career F1 victory.

Points leader and six-time champion Lewis Hamilton was handed a stop-go penalty after attempting to enter the pit while it was closed. Elsewhere on the track, Charles Leclerc was involved in a crash that produced a red flag suspending the race.

The red flag meant that drivers restarted from the grid and it was Gasly passing Lance Stroll to take the lead and go on to win the race.

Sainz trimmed the lead but was only able to manage a P2 result while Stroll finished P3. Despite the penalty, Hamilton was able to finish seventh, with Lando Norris, Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo finishing fourth through sixth respectively.

F1 stays in Italy for the Tuscan Grand Prix this weekend.
