Best Bets to Win the 2020 CJ Cup at Shadow Creek

This year’s CJ Cup will be a little bit different than the last three events. Due to travel restrictions and COVID-19, this year’s tournament won’t be played at Nine Bridges Golf Club on Jeju Island in South Korea. Instead, Shadow Creek Golf Course will host this year’s event, and it will be the first time a PGA Tour event has been played at this course. This isn’t the first time this course has hosted a major golf event though, as the match play challenge between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in 2018 took place here.

One of the favorites to win this event was forced to pull out on Tuesday. Dustin Johnson tested positive for COVID-19, leading him to withdraw from the tournament. Tony Finau won’t be taking part in the CJ Cup either, as he picked up the virus before last week’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

This is a relatively new tournament, so there have only been three past winners. Justin Thomas edged Marc Leishman in a playoff to win the inaugural CJ Cup in 2017, and he bested Danny Lee by two strokes last year.

The favorite to win the 2020 CJ Cup is Jon Rahm. Rahm has odds of +850 to win this event, while every other golfer in the small field is at least 11-1.

The Course

Shadow Creek is a public course, but it is one of the priciest public courses you will find in the world. It costs $500 to play a round here, so it’s not as accessible as others. There are plenty of memorable holes though, especially considering it’s built just north of Sin City.

According to Golf Course Gurus, the par-four 3^rd is the toughest on the course. This hole is 486 yards, and there are plenty of hazards for players to contend with as they try to strike it on the fairway. Conversely, the par-four 11^th is one of the easiest holes on the course at a distance of just 324 yards. Keep that in mind if you plan on live betting this tournament.

Value Play to Win the Event: Tyrrell Hatton +2000

Hatton finished sixth at this event last year, and he put together some impressive performances last season. He finished T7 at six different tournaments, but his only win was at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Hatton did not fare well at the US Open last month, shooting 12-over and missing the cut, but he has had plenty of time to work on his game over the last four weeks.

Berger failed to hit a single round under par at Winged Foot, but there were a lot of other golfers that shared that dubious distinction. He has not played a PGA Tour event since the US Open, yet he has to be considered a contender here. Berger found his groove in early February finishing T9, T5, and T4 in three straight events, and he finished 1^st, T3, and T2 in three of his first four events after the restart in the summer.
