NBA Power Rankings Update – February 27

There hasn’t been a lot of change in the NBA futures odds from last week. However, Golden State is once again a slight favorite over Phoenix to win the title after the Suns announced that Chris Paul would probably miss the rest of the regular season with a fractured thumb. CP3 has been vital to Phoenix’s success since joining the Suns, and they won’t be as dominant with the future Hall of Fame guard out of the lineup.

1. Golden State Warriors

Golden State blasted Portland by 37 points in its first game since All-Star Weekend on Thursday night. Steph Curry only scored 18 points, but he doled out 14 assists in the win. Klay Thompson was efficient from the floor, and rookie Jonathan Kuminga had one of the best games of his young career. Kuminga is finally starting to come around, and he is averaging 15.4 PPG this month while making 58.8% of his field goals.

2. Phoenix Suns

The Suns have split their first two games after the All-Star Break. They easily took care of lowly Oklahoma City on Thursday, but they fell at home to New Orleans on Friday night. Deandre Ayton hasn’t been as much of a presence near the rim and had just five rebounds against the Pelicans, and he only had six points in the win over the Thunder.

3. Brooklyn Nets

Last Week’s Odds: +600

Goran Dragic is slated to make his debut for the Brooklyn Nets this weekend. Dragic only played five games with the Toronto Raptors after being acquired in the sign-and-trade that sent Kyle Lowry to the Heat, and the San Antonio Spurs bought him out of his contract just before the All-Star Game. His addition gives the Nets a gritty veteran point guard that can take over in spurts off the bench, and they might be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference once more.

4. Milwaukee Bucks

This Week’s Odds: +650

Last Week’s Odds: +600

Former Brooklyn Net Jevon Carter was signed off waivers by the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this week. Carter became expendable with the addition of Dragic, and the Bucks brought him in as they are in need of backcourt depth. Pat Connaughton is still out for another few weeks because of a hand injury, and Donte DiVincenzo was dealt to Sacramento in the deal that brought Serge Ibaka to Milwaukee. This team has the depth to repeat as champions if Giannis Antetokuonmpo stays healthy.

5. Philadelphia 76ers

This Week’s Odds: +700
Last Week’s Odds: +675

It won’t be aesthetically pleasing to watch the Philadelphia 76ers with James Harden. He is going to slow down games while trying to draw fouls, and we saw Harden and Joel Embiid go to the free throw line 22 times in their first game together after the All-Star Break. The lack of depth will really hurt this team come playoff time, so it’s hard to have much faith in the Sixers.
