Best Bets at the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson

Korean golfers have had a lot of success at the AT&T Byron Nelson in recent years. The last two winners of this event have been Lee Kyoung-hoon and Kang Sung-hoon after Bae Sang-moon became the first Korean to win this tournament in 2013. This field has more talent than usual though as many of the top golfers have decided to head to TPC Craig Ranch for a tune-up before the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa next week.

Masters’ winner Scottie Scheffler is the overall favorite to win this weekend per the golf betting odds, and he has already won four PGA Tour events this season. Other big names like Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka will be teeing off too with the hope of ironing out imperfections prior to the second major of the season.

Event Details

Event: AT&T Byron Nelson

Category: PGA Tour

Date: May 12-15, 2022

Location: TPC Craig Ranch, McKinney, Texas

Past Winners

2021: Lee Kyoung-hoon -25

2019: Kang Sung-hoon -23

2018: Aaron Wise -23

2017: Billy Horschel -12

2016: Sergio Garcia -15

Only two of the last five winners of this event will be in the field on Thursday. Lee Kyoung-hoon will look to defend his title, but he is currently 110-1 on the golf futures odds, and Aaron Wise will be in the Metroplex too. However, two-time winner Sergio Garcia opted to skip the AT&T Byron Nelson, and Aaron Wise and Kang Sung-hoon won’t be in the field either.

The Course

TPC Craig Ranch was a par 70 until 2018, and then it became a par 71. The course was lengthened to be a par 72 last year, and it is a par 72 this year that checks in at 7,468 yards. It has been significantly easier to shoot low scores here over the past few years, and two of the last three winners tied the course record of 261, and Lee Kyoung-hoon finished a record 25-under par last year.

Best Bet to Win the AT&T Byron Nelson: Will Zalatoris +2000

It’s likely that no golfer has played TPC Craig Ranch as many times as Will Zalatoris. He grew up in the Dallas area, and he told the media that he has played this course hundreds of times. Zalatoris is still searching for his first PGA Tour victory, and it could come this weekend. He finished 17th here last year, but he is in better form with three straight T6 finishes coming into this tournament.

Value Play to Win the AT&T Byron Nelson: Jhonnatan Vegas +5000

University of Texas graduate Jhonattan Vegas has also played TPC Craig Ranch quite often. Vegas earned a 9th place finish in his tournament debut last year, and he is in fine form ahead of the AT&T Byron Nelson. He finished T4 at the Corales Puntacana Championship in late March and posted a T18 finish at the Valero Texas Open and a T15 at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship.
