Best Bets at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge

Many tournaments that are held the week following a major are devoid of the biggest names on the PGA Tour, but that isn’t the case with the Charles Schwab Challenge. Colonial Country Club has been one of the longest running tour stops, hosting a PGA Tour event almost every year since 1946. That gravitas has led to this year’s two major winners heading to Fort Worth for the Charles Schwab Challenge, and Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas are co-favorites by the golf betting odds alongside Jordan Spieth.

Event Details

Event: Charles Schwab Challenge

Category: PGA Tour

Date: May 26-29, 2022

Location: Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas

Past Winners

2021: Jason Kokrak -14

2020: Daniel Berger -15

2019: Kevin Na -13

2018: Justin Rose -20

2017: Kevin Kisner -10

There hasn’t been a repeat winner at Colonial Country Club since Zach Johnson won this event in both 2010 and 2012. Johnson will be among the 120 golfers teeing off on Thursday, but he is no longer a threat at the age of 46. He missed the cut in 2019 and 2020, and he finished in 43rd last year.

Defending champion Jason Kokrak is currently 45-1 to repeat as the winner of the Charles Schwab Challenge, and there will certainly be action on Kokrak over the next couple days. Former champion Jordan Spieth has seen a lot of action too, moving his price from 15-1 to 12-1 to win at Colonial.

The Course

Colonial Country Club is a par 70 course that is 7,209 yards. This is one of the oldest stops on the PGA Tour, and it hasn’t seen a lot of changes over the years aside from one major renovation. It’s only fitting that this event is taking place the week after the PGA Championship as both Southern Hills and Colonial Country Club were designed by Perry Maxwell and renovated by Gil Hanse.

Best Bet to Win the Charles Schwab Challenge: Jordan Spieth +1200

Kudos to anyone that was able to get down money on Jordan Spieth at 15-1 to win the Charles Schwab Challenge. Spieth has been excellent here over the years with a win in 2016 and runner-up finishes in 2015, 2017, and 2021. He has seven T10 finishes at Colonial over the last nine years, and Spieth has plenty of experience here as a Dallas native. Spieth has never shot worse than a 73 here as a professional, and he is in good form after winning the RBC Heritage and finishing runner-up at the AT&T Byron Nelson two weeks ago.

Value Play to Win the Charles Schwab Challenge: Gary Woodland +6000

Former US Open champion Gary Woodland has superb value at 60-1 to win the Charles Schwab Challenge. Woodland has only made the cut in half of his 16 tournaments this season, but he has four T10 finishes to his name. He finished 9th here in 2020 and placed 14th last year, so he has recent success at Colonial.
