Best Bets at the 2022 3M Open

Last week’s Open Championship was the last major of the year, meaning that the PGA Tour is entering the homestretch of the 2021-22 season. More players defected to the LIV Tour after taking part in the action at St. Andrews, so there are questions about how the rest of the year will play out. Most of the top golfers will skip this week’s 3M Open as it is being played across the pond the week after The Open Championship, but Tony Finau is a slight favorite over Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im by the current golf betting odds.

This will be just the fourth edition of the 3M Open. The PGA Tour announced that this stop was being added in 2018, and TPC Twin Cities used to be the site of a PGA Tour Champions annual event. Matthew Wolff won the inaugural 3M Open in 2019, and Cameron Champ is the defending champion.

Event Details

Event: 3M Open

Category: PGA Tour

Date: July 21-24, 2022

Location: TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, Minnesota

Past Winners

2021: Cameron Champ -15

2020: Michael Thompson -19

2019: Matthew Wolff -21

The Course

TPC Twin Cities is one of the easier courses on the PGA Tour. This course hasn’t gone any changes over the past couple years, and it checks in at 7,431 yards for a par 71. The only aspect that’s difficult is the four-inch rough, and the greens aren’t that difficult. The weather is expected to be mild throughout the tournament too, so the winner should end up around -20.

Best Bet to Win the 3M Open: Tony Finau +1400

The favorite coming into the 3M Open is Tony Finau. The two-time PGA Tour champion hasn’t won an event since The Northern Trust last year, but he could be poised for his third victory on Sunday. Finau finished T2 at the Mexico Open in May and was runner-up at the Canadian Open last month. Additionally, he posted a T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and closed out The Open Championship with a 66 on Sunday.

Finau has made the cut in all three of his previous trips to TPC Twin Cities. He finished 23rd in 2019 and 28th in 2021, but he scored a 3rd place finish in 2020. His familiarity with the course should be a boon to him this weekend.

Value Play to Win the 3M Open: Michael Thompson +10000

2020 3M Open champion Michael Thompson has a lot of value at 100-1 to win this week’s tournament. Thompson scored a T9 finish at the Barracuda Championship last week, and he has plenty of familiarity with TPC Twin Cities. The former champion made the cut here in 2019 before bowing out on Sunday, and he was able to make it to the weekend again last year. Thompson has seven rounds of 68 or better here in his 11 total rounds at TPC Twin Cities, so this is a nice price.
