If you need an official title for last year’s Seattle Seahawks season, call it the “Vindication of Pete Carroll,” because that dude came out smelling like some Carolina pork ribs last year. The team traded away Russell Wilson, who “Carroll was holding back” only to see DaneRuss completely fall on his face with the Denver Broncos.
Meanwhile, in Seattle, Russ’s backup Geno Smith made the Pro Bowl, got his team into the playoffs and won NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Carroll has outsmarted himself in the past, literally costing himself a Super Bowl because he didn’t want Marshawn Lynch to be the MVP against the New England Patriots, but this time, his self-satisfaction was well earned.

Seattle Seahawks 2023 Odds
2023 NFC Championship Odds: +2000
Team Wins: Over 8.5 (-115), Under 8.5 (-115)
Again, look at us still doing this two weeks into the season, but such is life. We now have a more solid vision of what the Seahawks will look like this season and, for whatever reason, punditry and the books see it way different than I do. I don’t feel like this should have been a playoff team last year and definitely don’t think they are this year.
They get a break with their schedule, and can capitalize on problems with other teams again. Coming up on their docket is the Carolina Panthers this weekend, then they’re at the New York Giants, then at the Cincinnati Bengals and no one knows if Joe Burrow will even be playing in that game. Then, it’s the Arizona Cardinals after that. This could be another crazy lucky Seahawks team that’ll sneak into the playoffs again and make just as quick an exit. I don’t think it’ll happen, but I also know that Pete Carroll, even at 100, is too good a coach for it to get completely out of hand.
2023-23 Win Prediction: 8-9
