Vancouver, Colorado Working Towards MLS Playoff Contention

It’ll be Western Conference action in the MLS on Saturday as the Vancouver Whitecaps host the Colorado Rapids at BC Place. Colorado is in 11th place out of twelve Western Conference teams though for all practical purposes they are in last place–they lead 12th place Portland by a single point and the Timbers have only played once at home this season. Even at this relatively low status on the MLS table all is not lost and they are currently just 4 points out of a playoff spot. Vancouver is in a bit better shape than the visitor as they currently sit in 9th place with 18 points putting the a single point behind 7th place Real Salt Lake and the final playoff spot in the West.

The Whitecaps are 3-3-3 at BC Place this year though generally have been in good form of late. They enter this matchup with a four game unbeaten streak and are unbeaten in five of six at home. Fredy Montero is the offensive catalyst for the Whitecaps with 5 goals and 2 assists on the season. The Vancouver offense could use a boost and they have scored eight and conceded nine at home this year.

Colorado is somewhat of a misleading team. They don’t look like much based on their seeding on the Western Conference table though they enter this contest in good form having gone unbeaten in their last five games with four victories. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Colorado has been woeful away from home this year with a record of 1-1-5 scoring just 7 goals while conceding 14. In fact, there may not be a worse road team in the MLS–away from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park the Rapids have only 3 wins in their last 27 away games.

Both of these sides are seriously inconsistent and enigmatic which is good for the intrigue of a soccer matchup but not so good for formulating a wagering position. Vancouver has certainly been inconsistent at home this year but appear to be rounding into form. One thing that is certain about this matchup is that Colorado has been a horrific road team for a couple of seasons now and that makes them extremely tough to back no matter what sort of price they’re getting on the MLS soccer betting odds board.
