NFL Football Betting: Thursday Night Football Props Take 1

The Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams are both currently 3-1. These NFC West rivals are tied for second place in the division behind the 3-0 San Francisco 49ers, but only one team will remain in second place when they face off on Thursday Night Football. Seattle is a short favorite per the NFL betting odds, and the oddsmakers are expecting fireworks with a lofty total of 49. There are currently dozens of player props and game props available for this tilt, so let’s look at some of the NFL prop bets with the most value.

LOS ANGELES RAMS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
LINE: SEAHAWKS -1.5
TOTAL: 49.5

ROBERT WOODS UNDER 6.5 RECEPTIONS (+102)

Woods is coming off his most productive game as a member of the Rams. He hauled in 13 receptions for 164 yards in a 55-40 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, leading the Rams in receptions and receiving yards on the afternoon. Big performances like that typically lead to inflated lines the following week, and that’s certainly the case with Woods’ NFL Player Props for this game.

In 2018, Woods finished with six or fewer receptions in 14 of 19 games with the Rams. He had a combined five receptions in his two games prior to his massive game against the Buccaneers, and he is unlikely to have as big of an impact against the Seahawks. Goff is very unlikely to throw the ball 68 times again on a short week, and the Rams are more likely to run the ball after calling just 11 run plays against Tampa Bay.

MALCOLM BROWN OVER 31.5 RUSHING YARDS (-137)

Speaking of the Rams running the ball more against the Seahawks, I believe Malcolm Brown will have a decent game on Thursday night. It’s clear that Todd Gurley’s knee is giving him some trouble, so Brown should receive more carries as the Rams attempt to establish the run against the Seahawks. Seattle is allowing 4.2 yards per carry on the season, and this front seven has yet to prove it can hold fast against the run.

TODD GURLEY UNDER 13.5 CARRIES (+142)

Gurley has carried the ball just 49 times this season, and he has averaged less than 4.0 YPC in each of his last three games. Sean McVay has said he wants to manage Gurley’s workload more this year, so I expect the three time All-Pro to concede some carries to Brown and rookie Darrell Henderson. I think it’s nearly a toss-up that Gurley carries the ball 14 times or more, so this is a great value bet when it comes to NFL Player Props.

CHRIS CARSON OVER 72.5 RUSHING YARDS (-115)

Carson has been Seattle’s No. 1 running back this year, holding off 2018 first-round pick Rashaad Penny for the starting job once again. Carson has not been too productive, averaging just 3.9 YPC this season, but he could be in line for a nice game against the Rams.

After carrying the ball 15 times in each of his first three games this season, Carson had 22 carries last week. He registered his first 100-yard game of the year, averaging 4.7 YPC against the Cardinals. The Rams are conceding 3.8 YPC, but Carson ran for 116 yards and a touchdown against this defense in the Emerald City last year and that’s when they had Ndamukong Suh.

RUSSELL WILSON OVER 251.5 PASSING YARDS (-119)

Injuries in the Rams’ secondary make taking Russell Wilson’s over in passing yards a strong play. Marcus Peters is expected to play after testing out of the concussion protocol earlier in the week, but you never know what to expect from players on short rest after getting concussed the previous week. Additionally, safety Taylor Rapp is expected to miss this game with an ankle injury, limiting the talent available for Los Angeles.
Wilson is averaging 285 YPG through the air this year, and he has two solid receivers in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Metcalf has been the big play receiver the Seahawks were hoping to land in the draft averaging 22.3 YPC, and Lockett is the more reliable underneath receiver. The Rams have an above average pass defense, but Tampa Bay found something to exploit in the film room and Seattle could do the same on Thursday.
