Under Review Show – Week 7 Recap and Week 8 Preview

All three sides of the Under Review Teaseburger cashed last weekend, leaving our hosts in a magnanimous mood. The Los Angeles Chargers may have lost, but they covered the spread with the additional seven points, and both Baltimore and New England easily covered the NFL betting odds. It’s unlikely the hosts ever back the Chargers again given the excruciating way in which they not only lost but failed to cover, yet there are other hard-luck franchises with losing records that have been placed in this week’s Teaseburger.

THE UNDER REVIEW SHOW – THE AFTERMATH – OCT 22

The New York Jets are the first leg of the Week 8 teaser. Gang Green was embarrassed last week in a home loss to the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football, but the Patriots are embarrassing everyone these days. Sam Darnold had an abysmal outing against the Pats, and he will look to bounce back against a Jacksonville defense that has lost a lot of its bite in the secondary after Jalen Ramsey was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Jets don’t have a bad defense, and Gardner Minshew II has not been great. For all the hype surrounding the rookie, his numbers have been rather mediocre, especially in recent weeks. In Minshew’s last four games, he is completing 53.6 percent of his passes, and he has completed under 50 percent of his throws in each of his last two games.

Leonard Fournette has had one fantastic outing this season, running 29 times for 225 yards against Denver in late September. Aside from that, he has been an average running back, so the Jets should be able to keep him contained. The Jets are currently a six-point underdog on the road in Jacksonville, and it’s difficult to see them failing to cover 13 points against a subpar Jaguars offense.

New England has been placed in the Teaseburger yet again, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Patriots are 5-2 ATS on the season, and their two losses against the football betting line have been by a combined 5.5 points. They have covered the teaser number in each of their first seven games, so that raises an important question. How many points would you have to receive in order to bet against the Patriots?

The Pats have one of the most impressive defenses we have seen in the NFL in recent memory, and they capitalize on mistakes like no other team. New England has picked off 18 passes through seven games, and this secondary is facing one of the league’s most mistake prone quarterbacks on Sunday.

Baker Mayfield has thrown at least one interception in every game, and he already has three multiple interception games this season. Mayfield has tossed more picks than any other quarterback since the start of the 2018 season. The former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown 11 interceptions against just five touchdowns already this season, and that has New England’s defense rubbing its palms together.

The NFL betting odds currently show New England as a 13-point favorite, so a seven-point teaser would bring the Patriots down to -6. They are playing at home in Foxboro Stadium, and Mayfield could have some problems with the noise.

In life, you save the best for last. The Los Angeles Rams are the last teaser pick for Week 8, and although they are on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, they are the anchor to this teaser.

The Rams may have solved their defensive issues with the addition of Ramsey. They gave up a mint for Ramsey, trading away two first-round picks and Marcus Peters to land the two-time All Pro, but he gives this defense a shutdown corner they have lacked. He was phenomenal against Atlanta despite only taking part in a few practices before gameday, showing what this defense could be the second half of the season.

Cincinnati has one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Rams should have little trouble moving the ball against a porous unit, and Sean McVay must be using this as a time for the team to get right. They are -13 at online sportsbooks right now, and a teaser would move that line below some kay numbers down to -6.
