Brooks Koepka Opens As +800 Favorite For 2020 Masters

Brooks Koepka is the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer heading in to the month of December. While the four-time major winner is focused on his immediate future after revealing he will resume play for the first time since injuring his knee in October, we can’t help but look to the future with an eye on the 2020 Masters field. All eyes will be on Koepka to see how he fares at the upcoming Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. However, before we even get there we decided to take a look at Koepka’s stock for the next edition of The Masters and where he should rank among the smart money futures picks on the board. Here is a closer look at the best bets in the 2020 Masters Field.

BROOKS KOEPKA
2020 MASTERS ODDS: +800
2019 MASTERS FINISH: T-2ND

A year ago, Koepka was listed at 22/1 odds to win The Masters. Koepka took an early lead and competed right until the end of the tournament before settling for a runner-up finish behind Tiger Woods along with Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele. Fast-forward one year later, and nobody is expecting Tiger to double down with another shocking win at The Masters this season. While Johnson and Schauffele could very well contend again, Koepka looks like the obvious sports betting favorite based on the ridiculous numbers he has produced since he teed up on the first hole at Augusta National a year ago. It’s still early and the value of Koepka’s betting odds could include if he struggles in his next couple of events. Perhaps the best strategy is to wait and see how he performs in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship before putting any money down on him. At the very least, his betting value could slightly improve.

DUSTIN JOHNSON
2020 MASTERS ODDS: +1200
2019 MASTERS FINISH: T-2ND

D.J. has yet to tee off in the 2020 season. However, based on his immense talent and overall potential, there is a very good chance he comes out firing on all cylinders when he does tee off. D.J. was a runner-up at The Masters and while he struggled in both the U.S. Open and The Open Championship, that might have had more to do with injuries and fatigue than anything else. An absolute bomber that has finished in the top-10 in each of his last three Masters appearances when healthy, Johnson is a decent futures option to win this year’s event at +1200.

XANDER SCHAUFFELE
2020 MASTERS ODDS: +3000
2019 MASTERS FINISH: T-2ND

While we don’t want to make it seem like we are putting too much stock in to last year’s event, it’s impossible to overlook how close Schauffele came to winning this tournament in 2019. It’s also worth mentioning what he has done since. Schauffele, who opened the 2020 season with back-to-back top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, placed second in The Masters and then third at the U.S. Open last season. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he was the runner-up again at the Tour Championship. At +3000 odds, it’s impossible to overlook Schauffele as an outstanding value futures pick.

FRANCESCO MOLINARI
2020 MASTERS ODDS: +3300
2019 MASTERS FINISH: 5TH

Another name that seems to get consistently overlooked when it comes to evaluating the best bets on the board for major tournaments, Molinari is an excellent value at +3300. The Italian was a longshot last season in the midst of an incredible run that included winning the Open Championship. He ended up finishing tied for fifth at 11-under. Fast-forward a year later and once again it seems like Molinari is being completely overlooked. One of the best value options on the board, it might be worth putting some early money down on Molinari to win The Masters in 2020.
