FURY -105
WILDER -115
OVER-UNDER: 10.5

WILDER IS A WILD MAN

Wilder is known as The Bronze Bomber as he’s one of the most prolific knockout artists of our time. One of the most appealing things of watching heavyweights box is the sheer power that they typically throw around. Wilder is the epitome of that as he’s been in 43 fights and knocked out 41 opponents.

What’s interesting to note is that of his 43 fights, only two fighters have made it through 12 rounds but one of them was Bermane Stiverne, who was hospitalized two days after the fight and was knocked out in the first round of the rematch. The second was Fury, who was knocked down and was nearly knocked out in the bout.

WHAT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME?

Fury is the opposite of Wilder in the sense that he’s a defensive genius. He’s really hard to hit as he dips, ducks and dodges with ease. Wilder typically just needs to land one or two big shots to end the fight but in the first bout, he wasn’t able to measure up Fury. The other thing that Fury did so well was he did a lot of clutching and grabbing, so anytime Wilder would find the range, he’d slip inside and hug him to wrap him up. That was a very effective strategy and is likely going to be the same in the rematch.

WHAT WILL THE REMATCH LOOK LIKE?

The question becomes can Wilder learn from the first bout and find the range with Fury? He eventually did by the end of the bout, very nearly knocking him out, but Fury got up just in time before the 10-count. However, Fury got up and given the amount of work and points he scored through the rest of the fight, he ended up with the win.

The question here is can Wilder be smarter with his boxing as Fury just chips away and collects points. Wilder is obviously looking for the home run hits and he’ll get his chances. However, he also doesn’t want to get outboxed the rest of the bout and potentially lose on points. Fury isn’t a threat to knock him out but he is a threat to outwork him with jabs and little dink-and-dunks. Wilder has to be smart to collect points and find the power bombs when he has the opportunity. He struggled with that in the first bout, which is why he’s only a small favorite in this spot.
