With the 2024 CFL season just under a month away, it’s time to take a look at some favorites to
go all the way for Canada’s ultimate pigskin prize, the Grey Cup. Winnipeg has been a
consistent contender for the last half-decade but there are a few other teams who are poised to
make a run at the crown.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers +250
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a bona fide dynasty, actually scratch that, they are a dynasty.
Having won back-to-back Grey Cup championships and losing the last two, the Blue Bombers
have appeared in four straight postseason finales. Despite the consistency, it does mean
they’ve lost back-to-back Grey Cups. They were the best team in the West last year with a 14-4
record heading into the playoffs. Now, they’re sharks that have smelt blood in the water and are
circling for redemption. Led by quarterback and two-time Most Outstanding Player Zach
Collaros, Winnipeg is an experienced squad who are the favorites heading into 2024.
Toronto Argonauts +300
2023 was thought to be a repeat banner year for the Toronto Argonauts but they were upset by
the eventual Grey Cup champs in the Montreal Alouettes. The Argos are in a tough spot after
star quarterback, who is one of the highest-paid players in the league, was suspended for a
minimum of nine regular-season games. The suspension came following a third-party
investigation that concluded the QB had violated the league’s gender-based violence policy.
Behind Kelly on the depth chart are Cameron Dukes and Bryan Scott and that’s where the
unimpressive list stops.
BC Lions +550
2024 holds high hopes for the BC Lions, as the club is slated to host this year’s Grey Cup
championship game. Since Owner Amar Doman purchased the team in the middle of the 2021
season, the Lions have certainly had a pep in their step. 2022 and 2023 would produce identical
seasons for the Leos, their best efforts since 2016 after a 12-6 record and making the West
Final. Now with the incentive of a home Grey Cup, there is the pressure to perform for Doman
and his squad. They re-upped their starting quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. with a three-year
deal after he finished with career highs in completions, completion percentage, passing yards
and passing touchdowns in 2023.
Montreal Alouettes +550
After winning their first title in over a decade, the reigning and defending Grey Cup champions
aren’t getting much love heading into 2024. Quarterback Cody Fajardo didn’t have an explosive
regular-season but he came to play when it counted. He posted career highs in crucial
postseason categories including his six passing touchdowns through three playoff games en
route to his second Grey Cup championship.
