Grey Cup is Set: Bombers vs Argos – Odds & Predictions
It’s Canada’s Super Bowl! The 111th Grey Cup takes place Sunday in Vancouver, as the Argonauts take on the Blue Bombers, who are just the fourth team in CFL history to play in five consecutive championship games. However, they’ve lost the last two seasons in dramatic fashion. Can they change their fortunes in British Columbia? Let’s dive in the market odds.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Blue Bombers started the season 0-4 but reeled off 11 wins in their next 14 games to finish atop the West Division. Quarterback Zack Collaros led the way, throwing for 4,336 yards and 17 touchdowns during the regular season, and 301 yards with four touchdowns in the West Final against the Roughriders. He’ll look to take advantage of a passing defense that was the second-worst in the regular season and has given up an average of 408.5 yards in two playoff games.
The Bombers also feature the CFL’s leading rusher, Brady Oliveira, who ran for 1,353 yards during the regular season. If he gets going, he’ll help control the clock, tire out the defense, and keep the Argos’ offense on the sidelines.
Toronto Argonauts
While the Argonauts made it to the Grey Cup, they will be without their starting quarterback, Chad Kelly, who is out with a broken leg. Toronto will turn to backup Nick Arbuckle to try and pull off the major upset. Arbuckle did enough for the Argos to beat Montreal in the East Final, completing 5 of 8 passes for 73 yards, including a couple of crucial completions late in the fourth quarter.
The Argos’ defense needs to find a way to slow down Collaros and the Bombers’ high-powered offense. Toronto has given up almost 1,000 yards in the playoffs through two games. It will come down to whether Arbuckle can lead the offense and put them in a position to score points and stay in the game.
Best Bet Prediction: Winnipeg -10.5
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers seem to be a team of destiny. They’ve averaged 32 points per game in their last five games while giving up just 20 PPG. The defense has been stout, and now, facing a backup quarterback, they’ll likely give the Argos all sorts of fits in trying to put up points. Winnipeg wins its third Grey Cup in five seasons.
