2021 League of Legends World Championship Group Stage Betting Preview

The 2021 League of Legends World Championship is set to start for real on Monday, October 11. Cloud9, Hanwha Life, and LNG Esports took care of business in the Play-In Stage as everyone expected, while Detonation FocusMe became the first Japanese team to qualify for the Group Stage at Worlds. Cloud9 and DFM are longshots to advance to the knockout stages after being placed in difficult groups, but Hanwha Life has a puncher’s chance and LNG Esports has been listed as the favorite in Group D.

2021 League of Legends World Championship Group Stage Betting Odds

Odds to Win Group A

FunPlus Phoenix -111
DWG KIA +100
Rogue +2000
Cloud9 +2400

This is likely to be the easiest group to predict. FunPlus Phoenix and DWG KIA are the two favorites to win Worlds, and Rogue and Cloud9 are not in their class. FPX has two extremely talented laners in Doinb and former DWG KIA top laner Nuguri, and they are seen by many as the best team in the world. DWG KIA are the defending world champions and boast an extremely talented mid laner in ShowMaker and a superb jungler in Canyon, but they need support Beryl to regain last year’s form.

Odds to Win Group B

Edward Gaming -222
T1 +200
100 Thieves +2000
Detonation FocusMe +2400

If Rogue or Cloud9 were placed in this group, they would have a chance to get out. However, neither 100 Thieves nor DFM will be able to challenge the LCK and LPL teams in this group. Edward Gaming has the top performing bottom laner in the world this year in Viper, and T1 have the indomitable Faker.

At this price, T1 is the best bet. Keria is a superb support, and this team has looked much better since Oner moved into the jungle role over Cuzz.

Odds to Win Group C

Royal Never Give Up -125
Fnatic +350
PSG Talon +500
Hanwha Life +500

It’s hard to go with the chalk in this group. Royal Never Give Up is getting a little too much respect, and Fnatic are sure to have good strategies to contain them. Fnatic came alive during the LEC Playoffs, as YamatoCannon has this team ready to compete. PSG Talon is an interesting wild card, but Hanwha Life are fools’ gold. Chovy is extremely talented, but no one else on the team is an elite player.

Odds to Win Group D

LNG Esports +150
MAD Lions +210
Gen.G +210
Team Liquid +1400

Group D figures to be the most interesting group of the bunch. LNG Esports should not be the favorite though. While the LPL is definitely the best league in the world, they aren’t that much better so that LNG should be ahead of MAD Lions and Gen. G. MAD Lions aren’t getting the credit they deserve for winning the LEC twice, and they have some international seasoning after taking part in the Mid-Season Invitational. Team Liquid has some value at this price too.
