Three of the four majors this year have concluded following last week’s US Open at Torrey Pines. Jon Rahm rose to the occasion to win his first major, but now the PGA Tour will head cross-country to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. Rahm and some of the other top golfers will take the week off, but Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and others will look to pick up a PGA Tour win before the year is halfway over.
Event Details
Event: Travelers Championship
Category: PGA Tour
Date: June 24-27, 2021
Location: TPC at River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut
Past Winners
2020: Dustin Johnson -19
2019: Chez Reavie -17
2018: Bubba Watson -17
2017: Jordan Spieth -12
2016: Russell Knox -14
The favorite coming into the 2021 Travelers Championship is Bryson DeChambeau. Beefy Bryson is typically among the favorites for every tournament, and he has already won two tournaments this season. DeChambeau claimed the US Open back in September, and he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. He was in the lead last week at Torrey Pines until he shot a 44 on the back-nine to finish with a 77. There’s no doubt he wants to get back on the course and not dwell on that collapse.
Dustin Johnson is one of the other big favorites after winning the Travelers Championship last year. He beat Kevin Streelman by one stroke thanks to a blisteringly low 61 on Saturday. Johnson won the November Masters with a superb -20, but he has not finished better than T10 at any tournament since February.
The Course
This is a very familiar course for the majority of the field. The Travelers Open has been held every year since 1952, and it has taken place at the TPC at River Highlands for the last three decades. This is a par-70 course without much length (6,841 yards), and there aren’t a lot of hazards for golfers to fret over. However, we are expected to see stronger winds over the weekend, and that could play a part in determining the champion.
Value Play to Win the Tournament: Bubba Watson +3500
The odds on Bubba Watson to win the Travelers Championship have dropped over the last three days. Watson was originally as high as 50-1, but he is now 35-1 to win this weekend. He is a three-time champion with wins in 2010, 2015, and 2018, and he is one victory shy of tying Billy Casper as the most successful golfer at this event. Watson got off to a good start at the US Open last week, but he fell apart over the weekend. That shouldn’t happen for a second straight week.
Top 5 Prop: Patrick Cantlay +350
We saw Patrick Cantlay win the Memorial at the start of the month. He finished T15 at the US Open despite a rough Friday performance, and he has been one of the top golfers on the PGA Tour all year. Cantlay won the ZOZO Championship and finished runner-up at The American Express in January. He has finished 15th, 15th, and 11th in this tournament over the last three years.
