Best Bets at the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational

There will be a new champion at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year. Bryson DeChambeau pulled out of this week’s event because of a left-hand injury that has kept him sidelined since late January. DeChambeau is hoping to be ready for The Players Championship, but we will see how his recovery goes in the next week or so. That has led to Jon Rahm being an even bigger favorite than we have seen recently, since some of the biggest names on the PGA Tour are skipping this week’s event in order to prepare for TPC Sawgrass next week.

Event Details

Event: Arnold Palmer Invitational

Category: PGA Tour

Date: March 3-6, 2022

Location: Bay Hill Club and Lodge, Bay Hill, Florida

Past Winners

2021: Bryson DeChambeau -11

2020: Tyrrell Hatton -4

2019: Francesco Molinari -12

2018: Rory McIlroy -18

2017: Marc Leishman -11

European golfers have had a lot of success on this course in recent years. Three straight Europeans had won the Arnold Palmer Invitational before DeChambeau held off Lee Westwood last year. Tyrrell Hatton and Rory McIlroy are among the favorites after their recent success at Bay Hill, and you can’t sleep on Marc Leishman either.

Surprisingly, this tournament hasn’t been decided by a playoff since 1999 when Tim Herron bested Tom Lehman.

The Course

There isn’t a lot of elevation at Bay Hill, but this is still a difficult course due to the hazards and potential for wind. Only one of the last five winners has shot better than 12-under, and the final-round scoring average last year was a whopping 75.5.

This course is a par 72 that checks in at 7,454 yards. The greens are treacherous with Stimpmeter ratings of 12 feet, and there are more than 80 bunkers that can prove tricky for players to traverse. That usually makes this one of the more difficult courses on the PGA Tour.

Best Bet to Win the Arnold Palmer Invitational: Marc Leishman +3500

We saw Marc Leishman win the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in 2017, and he finished runner-up to Tyrrell Hatton two years ago. The 38-year-old from Australia has five T20 finishes in his last six tournaments, and he has three T4 finishes in his nine events this season. Leishman missed the cut at Bay Hill last year, but he finished T7 three times in four years from 2017 to 2020 and has a third-place finish.

Value Play to Win the Arnold Palmer Invitational: Seamus Power +7000

Seamus Power has missed the cut in two straight tournaments. However, he had played very well prior to those setbacks with five straight T15 finishes from late November to early February. Power nearly won his second PGA Tour event at the Sony Open in Hawaii, so this is an attractive price on him although this will be his debut at Bay Hill.
