One of the most prestigious public golf courses in the United States will host the world’s best golfers this week for the Farmers Insurance Open. The PGA Tour comes to Torrey Pines Golf Course in beautiful San Diego for this event, and all the recent former champions will be looking to grab another title there. We probably won’t see one player run away from the field like we did last year when Patrick Reed bested everyone by five strokes.
Event Details
Event: Farmers Insurance Open
Category: PGA Tour
Date: January 26-29, 2022
Location: Torrey Pines Golf Course, San Diego, California
Past Winners
2021: Patrick Reed -14
2020: Marc Leishman -15
2019: Justin Rose -21
2018: Jason Day -10
2017: Jon Rahm -13
Jon Rahm is the overall favorite to win the Farmers Insurance Open by the golf betting odds. His odds are currently half those of the next best golfer this weekend (Justin Thomas). Rahm won this event in 2017 and is the top golfer on the PGA Tour, but his odds are too low to consider at this price.
Unfortunately, Tiger Woods is still out and will be unable to play at this event. Woods has won the Farmers Insurance Open a whopping seven times, most recently in 2013. He still holds the course record with a 22-under in 1999, and he also won this event four straight years from 2005 to 2008.
The Course
Torrey Pines is one of the most idyllic courses in the United States. It opened in 1957, and it has hosted the Farmers Insurance Open for over five decades. The South Course was redesigned in 2001, while the North Course was redesigned in 2016 in order to better showcase the natural beauty of San Diego. Wind is usually a big factor here and can lead to a lot of black numbers being posted as the North Course and South Course both abut the Pacific Ocean.
Best Bet to Win the Farmers Insurance Open: Marc Leishman +3300
Familiarity is once again the theme in this week’s picks. Marc Leishman has played extremely well at Torrey Pines since making his PGA Tour debut in 2009. Leishman won this event two years ago, and he finished tied as the runner-up in both 2014 and 2010. The six-time PGA Tour winner has been hit or miss recently with three T4 finishes in his last seven events, but his performance here has been too good to ignore.
Value Play to Win the Farmers Insurance Open: Brandt Snedeker +10000
This is a real longshot, but 41-year-old Brandt Snedeker has also played very well at Torrey Pines historically. Snedeker has won this event in 2012 and 2016, and he finished runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2010 and 2013. He missed the cut in four of his first five events this season, but he has played better recently and finished T14 at The American Express last week.
