The first major of the season will take place this weekend as the golf world shifts its focus to Augusta National Golf Club. The Masters is the most prestigious golf tournament on the PGA Tour, and tens of millions of people will be watching intently to see who will win the first major of 2022. The great Tiger Woods may play in his first tournament since the November Masters too, and BetOnline has plenty of props surrounding Woods’ potential comeback. Woods is stealing a lot of the headlines, but Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are the favorites this weekend.
Event Details
Event: The Masters
Category: PGA Tour
Date: April 7-10, 2022
Location: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia
Past Winners
2021: Hideki Matsuyama -10
2020: Dustin Johnson -20
2019: Tiger Woods -13
2018: Patrick Reed -15
2017: Sergio Garcia -9
Hideki Matsuyama is the defending champion, but he has not been in good form lately. Matsuyama withdrew from the Valero Texas Open after posting a 74 in the first round, and his best finish in his last three tournaments was a T20 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He can’t be counted out given his win here last year though and his victors at the ZOZO Championship and Sony Open.
The recent winner with the best chance to win another green jacket is Dustin Johnson. The winner of the November Masters set the course record here with that win, but he failed to make the cut last year. Johnson has five T10 finishes at The Masters, and he is in relatively good form ahead of this tournament.
The Course
The most famous golf course in the United States needs little introduction. Augusta National is extremely challenging without some of the gimmicks you see at other courses. Amen Corner will make or break title hopes, and we will see the azaleas in bloom once again. The 11th and 15th holes have been lengthened to make it even more challenging for the field this year.
Best Bet to Win the Masters: Collin Morikawa +2200
Collin Morikawa has finished 44th and 18th in his two previous appearances at Augusta National. The 25-year-old has ice in his veins at majors though, as he won the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 British Open. Morikawa finished T8 and T4 at the PGA Championship and US Open last year, and he was in fine form earlier this year. We saw Morikawa record five straight T7 finishes from October to February.
Value Play to Win the Masters: Corey Conners +6000
Although he has yet to finish better than T8 at a major, Corey Conners has been impressive in his last two trips to Augusta National. Conners recorded a T10 here in 2020 and followed that up with a T8 at last year’s Masters. He made the semifinals of the WGC Match Play Championship two weeks ago and closed with a 67 on Sunday at the Valero Open, so he has plenty of value at 60-1.
