Best Bets at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open

For the first time in three years, the RBC Canadian Open will be contested. This event was cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and 2021, making it the only regular PGA Tour event that hasn’t been played since 2019. Rory McIlroy is the defending champion after winning at Hamilton, and he is among the favorites by the golf betting odds considering his recent performance. Scottie Scheffler is the overall favorite though as he has been the best golfer on the PGA Tour this season.

Event Details

Event: RBC Canadian Open

Category: PGA Tour

Date: June 9-12, 2022

Location: St. George’s Golf and Country Club, Etobicoke, Ontario

Past Winners

2019: Rory McIlroy -22

2018: Dustin Johnson -23

2017: Jhonattan Vegas -21

2016: Jhonattan Vegas -12

2015: Jason Day -17

Jhonattan Vegas will certainly see a lot of action at 60-1 since he won the RBC Canadian Open in 2016 and 2017. Both of those wins came at Glen Abbey though, and no golfer has won the Canadian Open three times since Lee Trevino picked up his third victory at this tournament in 1978.

The last time that St. George’s Golf and Country Club played host to the Canadian Open was in 2010. Sweden’s Carl Pettersson bested Dean Wilson by one stroke to win the title, but a lot of the best golfers at the time did not take part in this event. Only a few golfers that will tee off on Thursday have previously played this course for the RBC Canadian Open.

The Course

St. George’s Golf and Country Club has seen some major renovations since 2010. The greens are completely different as bentgrass was installed to better handle the rough Canadian winter, and each bunker was meticulously redone in order to help with drainage. Additionally, the greens are running much faster, clocking in at a 12.5 on the Stimpmeter, and the rough is designed to really punish golfers that miss their shots.

Best Bet to Win the RBC Canadian Open: Corey Conners +2000

A Canadian has not won this tournament since Pat Fletcher did it in 1954, so the crowd would go crazy if Corey Conners broke that streak at St. George’s. Conners is the top ranked Canadian golfer on the PGA Tour, and he is certainly familiar with this course as he is from Ontario. He has only won one PGA Tour event in his career, and the pressure may have led to Conners missing the cut in 2018 and 2019. Conners has nine T25 finishes this season, and he is in good form with three T13 finishes in his last five events.

Value Play to Win the RBC Canadian Open: Sebastian Munoz +4500

This seems like a spot to go with Vegas, but fellow Colombian Sebastian Munoz is the better play at this price. Munoz has only won PGA Tour victory to his credit, but he has made the cut in 13 of his last 15 tournaments, and he has two T3 finishes and a T4 since October. He is coming off a week of rest too after not taking part in the Memorial last week.
