Best Bets at the 2022 RBC Heritage Open

The RBC Heritage Open typically doesn’t have a lot of the top names in golf since it is traditionally held the week after the Masters. That isn’t the case this time around though as a lot of the top names on the PGA Tour have decided to make the trek from Augusta to Hilton Head Island in order to take part in this tournament. Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas are the favorites per the golf betting odds, and they are looking to win here for the first time.

Event Details

Event: RBC Heritage Open

Category: PGA Tour

Date: April 14-17, 2022

Location: Harbour Town Golf Links, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Past Winners

2021: Stewart Cink -19

2020: Webb Simpson -22

2019: Pan Cheng-tsung -12

2018: Satoshi Kodaira -12

2017: Wesley Bryan -13

Stewart Cink is the defending champion at the RBC Heritage Open. Cink won this event by four strokes last year, and he is now a three-time champion at Harbour Town. We saw him win here in 2000 and 2004, and the only golfer that has won this event more times is Davis Love III. Despite his success, Sink is a big longshot at 110-1 to win the RBC Heritage Open.

Webb Simpson set the course record here in 2020. Simpson shot a 22-under in 2020 to beat Abraham Ancer by one stroke. He has eight Top 20 finishes at the RBC Heritage Open, but he has not been in good form lately. Simpson has not finished better than T35 since a T17 finish at the Hero World Challenge in December.

The Course

This course doesn’t reward big hitters. It checks in at under 7,200 yards and is a par-71. Instead, it rewards golfers that can get to the green as Harbour Town has the smallest greens on the PGA Tour. That can prove difficult as swirling winds abound at Hilton Head in the spring, and that will cause some golfers trouble throughout the week. However, this is a very manageable course that should see lots of rounds in the 60s.

Best Bet to Win the RBC Heritage Open: Cameron Smith +1600

Mullet wielding Cameron Smith had an up-and-down performance at the Masters. He shot 68 on Thursday and Saturday to remain in contention to win the most prestigious tournament in golf, but he finished with a 74 on Friday and a 73 on Sunday. Still, that was good enough for a T3 finish and he has already won the Sentry Tournament of Champions and THE PLAYERS Championship this year.

Value Play to Win the RBC Heritage Open: Harold Varner III +5500

One of the underrated stories at the Masters was the performance of Harold Varner III. Varner finished T23 at Augusta National, and he would have been in contention if not for an 80 in the third round. He has a T6 finish at THE PLAYERS Championship to his credit, and he finished T2 at the RBC Heritage Open last year. That is worth a play at 55-1.
